OK; sharing the secret sauce. This one's just the simple steps; you can play to adjust results as you like. :)

First I do an adaptive edge to create a mask; did clean up areas that I don't want the effect to apply (shadow areas mainly).

I then invert this layer for the mask and apply it to original (not showing this step).

Took this result and fed it to G'MIC Solidify

I then play with GIMP's Neon edge for the actual Kirlian result:

Now I do some layer blends to taste (you can adjust how you like here):

Of course you can add some color to make it look more Kirlian real; not doing this step this time. :)

Thanks much for sharing lylejk :bigthup, like the effect.

Quick test run on work machine.
Need to play more with settings and see if I can get adaptive edge installed on Xubuntu.

Nice result, Nidhogg. Maybe someone here can automate this process. Believe G'MIC has edge detect capability similar to my Adaptive Edge GIMP filter, but I still like using Adaptive Edge. :)
