Just one comment on your posted images: it seems that your new workflow superimposes a lot of orange nuance, am I wrong?

It must be the saturation, I also create the additional color layer in engrave with saturation at 24.
Then I change the engrave lines layer to linear burn and the color layer it produced to LCh color.
In the the very beginning I use Colors/Tone Mapping/Mantiuk with custom settings to replace the preprocess steps from the tutorial.

Oh, I see.
Applied +24 to saturation in the colour layer created by Engrave.

Yeah that's how I like my cartoons, with colors.

Before and after with the mantiuk workflow I'm using.

I would use bigger image, you get more engraving lines that way.
It's lot about the engrave settings, after writing the tutorial I have created many custom presets that look much better.
Dera Niddhogg,
Do you think I can request one or two presets just to try the effect.

Eureka, here's couple. I think I posted some settings in the earlier pages.
Keep in mind that you almost always want to play and change the settings in the engrave step to make it look the way you want and like.
These can only serve as directional aid in my opinion.
The mantiuk setting uses different anterior steps than was written in the original tutorial. But of course you can try it nonetheless.
The freak art setting is for punk style posters and zombification :hehe

Nidhogg wrote:[...] it's a saved, renamed Engrave filter setting.
After you have tweaked settings for any G'mic filter, you can use the + button above the filters update button to create new custom preset.
Right click the custom preset and you can rename, remove or clone it.

Wow, I didn't know that completely! :wow
This information will completely change the way I use G'MIC. :bigthup

I had forgotten how to produce this effect, so I reread the tutorial. I have sinned in using a small image (599x449).
I'm not satisfied with the newsprint used, maybe I should have tried to produce a newsprint like post #112.

Many of the creative works presented here by everyone, some are incredible. I really liked variation 1 of post #101.

I tried to follow Dinasset's tips in post #52 and see what I get, it looks promising!

Thx Nidhogg! Tuto continues to give a lot of fun!

You're welcome Krikor, glad you enjoy it.
I've continued playing with this now and then, though I'm now playing with the drawing tablet to get my first drawing finished.
If you want to produce something like in post #112, duplicate the color layer Engrave filter creates and use Filters/Distorts/newsprint.

I duplicated the color layer generated by the Engrave filter, I used Smudge Tool to smooth the lines, but I couldn't use the Newsprint in Filters / Distorts.
This filter (Filters / Distorts / Newsprint) seems to have changed, I think it was different from the last time I used it. Until I understood how it works it would take a long time, so I opted for G'MIC - Op Art.

It's not quite the result I wanted yet, but I'll try more later.
Below, Final image - before (left) and after Smudge Tool.
