Not sure if anyone has listed the many ways to cut out images using gimp. I'll just list a few that I use and just learned of their existence. Feel free to add to the list. *Scissors *Select by Colors Tool (image needs alpha channel) *Wand Tool *Quick Mask *Paths Tool *Free Select Tool *Color to Alpha *G'MIC's Extract Background Preset (Contours) *G'MIC's Split Objects (Testing->Garagecoder) Those are the ways I know of when trying to cut out an image in gimp. Here are a few more: *ofn-erase-background.py by Ofnuts that removes the selected color, leaving a smooth edge. *Script-fu-remove-hemera-image-bg-color.scm |

There is the new foreground selection tool in 2.10 that uses either Levin or Global engine matting. But the results I've had with it have been awful. From what I remember, the rggjan gimp-matting that was forked in the portable Gimp 2.74 was better. Color: Color to alpha. Improved from 2.8, removes single color perfectly if the edges have no any feathering. Then there is the ofn-erase-background.py by Ofnuts that removes the selected color, leaving a smooth edge. Script-fu-remove-hemera-image-bg-color.scm by Rod is similar. |

I knew about color to alpha, it just slipped my mind and I forgot to add it to the list. As for the plugins, I haven't heard of those. |

Can try G'MIC's extract preset; pretty powerful. Not quite GIMP specific, but to me, GIMP cannot be without G'MIC. |

I've used G'MICS extract preset. I will add that to the list. |

Thank you for this! Very timely! I was watching a video yesterday on various ways to do this in Photoshop, and wondering how it could be "ported" to GIMP. |
