nice work teapot and racer-x

Image

I put the original wheels on and used Conformal Maps on the background - must have been while you were doing the perspective filter racer-x.

I've found the G'MIC settings are best used sparingly with animation. Conformal maps is almost identical to an effect I was getting with MathMap. The difference with MathMap and G'MIC, other than they use different graphics engines, is MathMap mainly works on 1 layer and animates it while G'MIC can work on multiple layers. Apparently the command line version of MathMap was never finished so the best way of using MathMap on many layers is by porting it's filters to G'MIC. Zonderr and Souphead have both done this. :bigthup

racer-x, Very neat addition of turning wheels and I like the perspective :jumpclap

Tas_mania, Love your background, very clever :wow I had to give it a try but mine looks like it's stuck on a roundabout rather than circling the globe. I've not used Conformal Maps before this and it looks complicated, did you use a custom formula?

Some really neat work going on in this thread, well done to all posters. Hey Tas, I'm sure I saw Cradle Mountain in the background of that last one :hehe

Hi teapot. To get your beetle off the roundabout use the 'x-shift' and 'y-shift' sliders. That will bring your beetle closer to the viewer.

I'm glad you tried Conformal maps because so far it only works using the 'filter all layers' method. Because it contains equations it fails with the batch script method. Any filter with brackets in it fails to run as a batch script without escaping the equation. Maybe I'll work out how to do it :gaah

Hi OMG. Not Cradle Mountain but the Ben Lomond plateau. I got the houses from Google street view and dropped them into a panorama. Merged both ends together into a loop and you can add another element to the foreground. By adding wheels later I was able to get the vehicle to bounce on a 'chassis'. At least 2 ofnuts scripts were used. I got some help from Gimp Chat members also. :coolthup

Using the script method and the GIF, filter all layers' method you can apply multiple G'MIC filters to an animation stream one after the other.

Cool animations and tips. I like the plane Racer-X did in post 6, it has little bit of that old hand drawn animation feeling.

Thanks for the tip I will try it later to see if I can get unstuck :bigthup

Have tried with the default custom formula and got it to work from the command line with a bit of editing. I deleted the double quotes and spaces and added a single ' at the beginning and end of the argument:

Before edit fails:

fx_conformal_maps 0,1,0,"((1.1 + i*z/6)/(1.04 - i*z/6))^6.2",0,0,0,0,0,3,0,0,"1024","1024"

After edit works:

fx_conformal_maps '0,1,0,((1.1+i*z/6)/(1.04-i*z/6))^6.2,0,0,0,0,0,3,0,0,1024,1024'

Not sure how robust this is as I don't have other formulas to try but worth trying on the ones you want to use.

I love the vintage look of that one too :coolthup

Great work Tas and teapot. Here is an experiment using the "Smart Rotate" filter to drive the Mustang up a hill.

I like the cinema-style reverse rotating wheels racer-x :)

Thanks teapot for the solution to batch scripting G'MIC equations. :jumpclap

Quote:
fx_conformal_maps '0,1,0,((1.1+i*z/6)/(1.04-i*z/6))^6.2,0,0,0,0,0,3,0,0,1024,1024'

On my Xubuntu, definitely get rid of spaces but double commas at the beginning and end of the argument works.

I think this is the bash shell I wonder what sort you use or what OS? (PM me if you don't want to tell everybody)

Tas_mania, I'm also using the bash shell under Linux.

I prefer single quotes if I don't need what double quotes offer. It means I don't need to carefully look for things which might be interpreted.

Two examples to try that someone gave me :hehe

echo "Hello $LOGNAME, it is \\`date +%A`/!"
echo 'Hello $LOGNAME, it is \\`date +%A`/!'

Another go with Conformal Maps think I'm off the roundabout now. Thanks again for the tips Tas_mania.

Hi Guys. I made another script that modifies every second frame with a G'MIC filter.
#!/bin/bash
mkdir ./done
for i in *[13579].png
do
gmic $i -fx_jr_deform 0,9.35,0,26.74,1,0,-42.4,1,0,50,50 -o ./done/$i
done

Image

This script changes the odd-numbered frames and puts them in a directory 'done'. These are copied back-in with the unchanged frames.
To change even-numbered frames
for i in *[024680].png

Background was made with ofnuts scroll-layer. Filter is Testing>Telperion>Mc Pendraw.
Red Rod changed with 'Crease'. The 2 animations were merged with ofnuts Interleave layers.

The script is for G'MIC filters that radically change every frame and make a video too jerky. It's probably better to alter every 3rd frame but I don't know how to script that ATM.
Keep scripts that change selected frames separate to scripts that change all frames.

Excellent work Tas.

Here is a "Neon" filter by Joan Rake under "Testing".

Tas_mania, looking great, every second frame is a good enhancement.

racer-x, The neon is very effective and I like the background lighting reflecting on the car.

Well done teapot, especially the headlight illumination on the road ahead. That was a nice touch.

Background looks great. The car is melting too much. :hehe

Like the Mustang Neon too, but the dashed line is running forward.

Yeah, it's an optical illusion. Anyway, upgraded the rims and applied "Dream Smooth" to the background only (via selection)....

Hey teapot, I'm wondering where your beetle goes after dark?

Racer-x your Mustang has excellent fuel consumption :lol

Image

I made a background so I can add something later.

It's hard to manage filters like distort that radically change layers when applied to animations.
A solution: Instead of modifying half the frames
for i in *[13579].png

you can modify right down to 1 frame every 10.
for i in *[5].png

1,5,9
1,5 any series works odd or even numbers.
This makes it slightly random which could be an advantage :)
The mountains above have a very slight distortion which doesn't even show on a GIF.

Just playing around, I made a more realistic rain animation. I used "Blur Bloom" to make the fog. I used "Wind" to make the water spray effect. I made the headlight beams and added rain.
