OK; in a good mood so will do a tutorial. Now I may do more nuances in my results, but this tut pretty much covers the major flow that I use including some nuances to give you an idea of that. Best to experiment for yourself.

For starters, open the object you want to plasmatize. This is another Tithonia extraction (not the same one for the recent Tithonia Plamique that I posted).

Now, you need to bleed edges. Used a Script-fu to do this.

Need to copy this result and paste it into a new image. Then reduce the size 80% give or take. Now run Make Squiggly on this smaller result.

Now you nee to uprez the result. I like using dcci2x preset for this (two passes).

Now run Morphology preset to squeeze the width of the lines.

Now uprez the original (bleed edge result) to the same size as Make Squiggly result and then copy it on top of it.

Now run Make Squiggly for this layer.

Now set this layer to Screen and dup multiple times. Result so far.

Now you need to do some adjustments to the color. Set foreground color to blue and background color to Magenta and map gradient on a duplicate layer, then follow the flow below.

multi_step.png

Flatten, thn Dup this result and auto-level. Now reduce opacity to taste (I set to 65%) and set this layer to saturation. This step adds a hint of white (not showing this step).

You are now done.

Still, why not add some embellishments. I dup and run Fractilize on top layer.

Do the following steps (see screen capture).

And voila. :)

only a little info, Lyle: I modified the RobA script "filltrans" to accept only RGBA or GRAYA (it was RGB* GRAY*), i.e. only images with an Alpha channel.
The plug-in which is called internally (threshold-alfa) abends if the layer(s) do not have an alpha channel

Hopefully any updates to Rod's Script-fu operates the same, Diego. The version I have works for me. G'MIC use to also have this ability, but David updated a few things in G'MIC's engine which changes the behavior not giving an ideal result for solidify. Solidify is not necessary for non-extracted objects of course. Like using it for such objects though.

Thank for your feedback too Sallyanne. Hope to see something from you soon. :)

Rod, try to set "Transfer Alpha to layer mask" on .
If you get error messages, you have my same version.
Otherwise I should have an older one (maybe)

edit: obviously the test should be performed with an RGB (no transparency) image.
With any RGBA it works fine.

PS: I know it's unlikely to use an RGB (no -A) image on your tutorial !
But, from time to time, I use to perform some "monkey test", thus I tried to follow your tut on a pure RGB image, without transparency and with that option on; I got error messages, because the internally called filter requires transparency.

Again, Rob's script-fu is only good if you have an extracted object upon a transparent background. If you have a full image, no reason to run the Script-fu. I like how fill transparent gives you outward waves with your run make squiggly. :)

of course, I should have put that info on the linked post of RobA
(it was a monkey test, as I said)

Lyle, thank you a lot for another nice tutorial to create such innovative result. You know how to use your mind and G'MIC perfectly. :clap
I add your tutorial in a pdf file just in case someone needs it. :)

Cool Issabella. You can experience with the scale, but I like 4 to 1 ratio between the 2 passes and didn't want the final size to exceed 1600 pixels. I wouldn't go at a higher scale; can experiment with a smaller scale difference though (3 to 1 or 2 to 1 for instance). :)

Well, I tried, but my make squiggly didn't look right, and as I continued, it crashed my gimp, lol.

Weird you got G'MIC to crash; make sure you disable the Invert Luminescence setting 2-ton.

Anyway, I'm continuing to experiment with embellishments. This time I added Eye Candy Fur preset to add tiny tendrils to the arcs (subtlety). :)

Lyle, I'm trying it. But I have problems when I set the layer mode at screen. Then it becomes red and loses the black colour in background of the flower. :(

I could get this result, omitting screen.
