John Stango's info:

Of course it's a work in progress. Anyway, below's my current flow. Think of it as a type of camouflage watercolor. lol

First run Engrave:

Now run segmentation:

Now colorize the result using the original:

Lyle, I like your result a lot. :kpix Most of your results are so good that you make me try them, too but my results aren't so good. :hehe

The tweaks (nuances) if you will must be your own and come from experience (well play). I use to believe that all renders can be 100% automated, but now I just view whatever automated steps that you can use as tools and the final result still requires your own touch (as it should be). Tools are just the brush; the soul's still in your own hands, Issabella. :)

No, Lyle. You are wrong! Issabella is correct. You are very artistic. Look at your last sentence above in post #4. You have the soul of an artist. You have shared and taught us so much explaining how you have done something and even through your "binges". You have knowledge, talent, creativity and love what you are doing with it. Sorry to sound like a mother scolding a child (I might be old enough to be yours) but you really are an artist.

Set original on top set to color dup top layer saturation with lower opacity (to taste). :)

Here is my attempt, using blending instead of colorizing.

I used my "Crabby Gull" picture and liked the outcome. I decided to play with the result and Autotrace
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=11778&start=10
This is my combination image.
