Hello my friends

Occasionally I use "FastStone Image viewer" to do image processing.
I add a picture of the edit page in "FastStone Image viewer".
my question :
What is the easiest and most convenient way to change SHADOWS , HIGHLIGHTS and CONTRAST in GIMP ?

Thanks
Doron.

I only know these ones

- menu "Colors" then "Brightness and Contrast"
- menu "Colors" then "Curves" where you can play with shadows by changing the curve on lower end to the left of the curve and play with highlights by changing the curve on the upper end to the right of the curve.

In addition to that you can go to
- menu "Colors" then "Levels" and then click on the eyedropper tools to select black points, white points to tell it what should be black and what should be white.

Thank you for the quick Answer.

In the edit page of "FastStone Image viewer" you can see 4 easy to use bars.
Is there a "script" or "Plug ins" that have bars like in the picture ?

Thanks Doron

I just quickly equalized shadow in G'MIC then gave it a little contrast in gimp.
Because G'MIC is a plugin, it was all in the same place.

In addition to the previous, "Equalize shadow" filter in G'MIC is same in GIMP as:

Copy layer
Invert this layer.
Set blend mode to "Soft light". ;)

(Thereafter in layers: "New from visible", "Duplicate layer")

edit: This is a nice way to lift shadows in a backlighted photo or to lift very dark shadows.

The above image isn't backlighted (or has dark shadows), so why did you equalize shadows Sallyanne?

Nope.. because i can't write plug-ins with preview mode I am just not that advanced. And i think the existing controls are fine.
