Yes, use a spider brush to make fuzzy slippers.

Image

This is a very easy tutorial and will give you practice moving between the Layers window and the Paths window. Also an instance of creating a small path using the Ellipse Selection tool.

Download the Fuzzy-Slipper-files.zip file below. It contains:
  • bigblackspider.gih (put into your GIMP brushes folder)
  • Camo.ggr (put into your GIMP gradients folder)
  • fuzzy-slippers-template.xcf

  1. Refresh your brushes and gradients or close and reopen GIMP.
  2. Open fuzzy-slippers-template.xcf in GIMP and duplicate by pressing Ctrl + D. Close the original file. You will see a pair of tan and black soles. The tan represents the innersole of the slippers. The black will be covered with fuzzy areas.
  3. Click the Paintbrush Tool and find the Big Black Spider brush.
Change the brush size to 0.50.
Check Use color from gradient and browse to the Tropical Colors gradient.

    Image

  4. Ctrl + Shift + B to open the Brushes Dialog and at the bottom change the spacing to 5.

    Image

  5. Select the Paths tab in the Layers window.
Select the both toe areas path by clicking it.
Select the Path to selection button.

    Image

  6. Click the Layers tab and make sure you have the toes fill layer selected.

    Image

  7. Paint with the paintbrush in both selections to cover the black toe areas. When they are filled, Ctrl + Shift + A to unselect.
  8. Select the surrounding trim layer.
  9. Select the Paths tab.
  10. Select Stroke with a Paint Tool icon at the bottom.
  11. In that dialog, select Stroke with a Paint tool and make sure Paintbrush is the one selected. (You will see it on the bar.)

    Image

  12. Click the stroke button.
  13. Click the Layers tab.
  14. Your slippers are finished.
  15. Merge all layers and save as a png file.
  16. Close it.

Use the Camo gradient to make camouflage-colored slippers for the guys so they can go and hide in the jungle.

I put a fuzzy hat on this lady. You can download the one I used without a hat if you want. It's an attached zip file below.

Image

Open a picture that you want to put a hat on or use the one I supplied.

  1. Creat a new transparent layer to put the hat on.
  2. Make the Foreground color 660066 and the Background color ba44b9 or other colors that suit your image.
  3. Click the Paintbrush tool and the Big Black Spider brush and change the size to 1.00. Spacing at 5 in the Brushes Dialog window. Use color from gradient and browse to choose the purple colored one made by the FG and BG colors.
  4. Use the Ellipse Select Tool to make a small selection on her head.

    Image

  5. Select > To Path
  6. Unselect
  7. Click the Paths tab in the Layers window.
  8. Click the Paint the path button and Stroke.
  9. Click the Layers tab.
  10. Merge the layers and save.

now that I have seen the spider brush, it's creeping me out. I think I'll go look for a pom-pom brush because I HATE spiders, lol.

*nvr mind, puff balls don't have the same look as those spider legs.

This spikey ball image scaled down to half size, sized at 0.20, and spaced 10 makes a good brush for this.

The slippers look different but it still works.

Yeah. I've tried several different things but the angled legs work best. I have another spider brush and it makes a pretty good one too.

After you have merged the slipper layers, you can brush on top of the toes to remove the boundary look of the outline.

Image

It's smaller. You can use it full-sized. I renamed it to spider-stuffedtoy.gih

I grabbed everything that could be downloaded. This will give me something to do when I'm somewhere I don't want to be bored stiff. Thanks.

One more brush: spiny.gih

Here is an example of using the brush on a slipper.

That puts a whole new slant on things, Molly. Gorgeous!!! I can almost see those ostrich feathers floating on that boa.
