ORIGINAL http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2422/358 ... 193a_b.jpg

How work
dup the original 2 times
run gmic Bw pencil on a dup

now for the dup on top TOOLS/ Gegl operation c2g

now the point here is the grain, to have a good grasin with have to mantain the value for "sample" low ...as from 4 to 10, and low also that for "iteration " no more then 12....best is look the preview should be...nice and grainy

then change the layer mode in multiply, lower opacity (i was in a range from 50% to 75% ) et voila
About the original layer .. above i didn't used but could come handy on top of everything in color mode but very low opacirty to add a slight tint as here ....here the (strecthed )"original" layer was on top with5% opacity in color mode

I bookmarked that link for future references. =)
I love those old cars.

Currently i am working on sort of a panorama for my township.
The theme is then and now and features, or will feature an horse and buggy in black and white fading to a new farmers pickup truck. All photos were taken right here in Allendale.

That's really cool. Is it a tractor? What does it run on?

I'm not a farm girl so don't know one farm machine from another.

PhotoComix, I tried one like yours.

Original image is here: http://www.old-picture.com/american-legacy/005/pictures/Old-Car.jpg

Image

Then I tried it on your picture, Rod. I lightened the original image just a little.

looks like it might be an old tractor??? I wonder if it ran on burning coal, looks sort of like a burn box up front.

I hunted around with google, and I think I found it. It's down the page a ways (around the 15th set down)...it's a steam powered tractor.
clicky

You found the same tractor, Toni. How cool is that? Wow!

Image

Quote:
The internal combustion engine put an end to the reign of the steam tractors. This is a Rumely Oilpull, which ran on kerosene. Kerosene was cheaper and more plentiful than gasoline in those days. The tractor was called the "Oilpull" because oil was used in the cooling system instead of water. The "smokestack" on the front is actually part of the cooling system.

Did PhotoComix's method on this car. Duplicated the results, did BWSketch and ran the GEGL Operation on those results, Layer mode multiply again, lowered the opacity and merged it down.

Got the original image here: http://pics4.city-data.com/cpicc/cfiles5950.jpg

Image

Original image Used GEGL on a BWSketch layer, set the layer mode to Saturation, Opacity 65. Saturation mode gave it a faint sepia color.

That is so awesome, a kerosene run tractor cooled by oil...go figure. =)
Thanks for the information on it!
Also that is way neat you found another image of it.

I think instead of the horse and buggy i will use the Allendale tractor as the old B&W part of the panorama.
With your permission i would like to add that description of it at the bottom.

Those images look real cool with that filter, nice job you guys!

That description is on the website that 2-Ton put the link for in her post. It's not my description. AFAIC, use it.

That color appeared when I was browsing the layer modes and the Saturation mode made it that color.

It is unusual. The back looks like it may have a cover that can be pulled up like old convertibles used to have. The drivers may be out of luck, but then again perhaps there is a cover somewhere we are not seeing.

Seat belts came a long time later.

Oh, I like that PC! Very nice.

I tried my hand at a rusty piece of farm equipment I found here.

After doing the GEGL operation it was much darker.

Image

It's dark because I forgot to lower the opacity on the GEGL layer. Here it is at opacity 65%.

Image

Another one. This one I ran color temperature in gegl to make the picture not so yellowish. Original here

I love the look of the rusty farm equip...especially the second pic. Looks very much like an ink and water color picture.
