EDIT: I fixed typos and made the text stand out more. Hope it's better now.

I had trouble seeing the text of the tutorial on both ends of the image so I dlded the image and used brightness and contrast so I could see it better. I typed it out and am putting it here. Could be my graphics card or something that's making it do that. Dunno.

Here's the tutorial in plain text. Quoting Demen's text:

"Start with whatever color you want outer space to be. Most people use black, but sometimes you can get away very dark blue or very dark purple.

Go to Filters>Noise>HSV Noise

Use the bottom three sliders to make your stars.

The Holdness slider is kind of like a "percentage affected" / "blur amount" slider. Use it to tweak the over all look.

Fine tune the results to suit your tastes using the other sliders.

Next use Filters>Light and Shadow>Sparkle to make distant twinkling stars. I never mess with most of the sliders. If you want, you can use the Luminosity Threshold slider to choose the brightness cutoff for which stars are affected.

You're done! But if you want to make the stars blur like you're in hyperspace you can try using Filters>Blur?Motion Blur in Linear or Zoom mode.

You can also try using Render>Clouds>Plasma and try different layer modes to give your stars some color."

Very cool tutorial, Demen. I'll put up mine when I do it. :-D

Download the pdf of the text.

Got the UFO here.

My star background. I made a new layer and used Filters > Render > Clouds > Solid Noise and set it to Overlay on mine, also.

Nice. I'd recommend making the stars a little more sparse. But good results. :)

I think you are right about the stars. I've been working with GIMP for all of four days now so that won't be my last attempt at this tutorial. I need all the practice I can get.
