I posted this post recently and decided I'd break down and create a tut. Very easy to do. :)

Link to tutorial (minus border; gotta keep some secrets {i.e., just too lazy to add that to this tutorial; lol}): http://justpaste.it/chalk_it_up

Bonjour,

Thank you for the link :)
I love these effects with chalk drawings.
I'll try to make a script-fu in the coming days with this tutorial.

It has a 30s Nouveau look to it.

Funny you should mention this GMS, but my main inspiration for this look came when Phyllis (other forum I frequent) shared a link to Picasso's Rooster line drawing. It took me several years to concoct the look but I did (remember; I never give up; lol). Yahoo search led to the image below (long lost Phyllis's thread; lol). :)

I hope you don't mind my exposing your secret but I came across this recently. It's just a quick tutorial showing how to make simple frames like this.

Thanks for posting this. I really like that effect.

lol; not at all Bug S. More then one way to skin a cat. Mind's a little bit more lazy. I first run Decor>Add Border, lower the frame to lower layer and then fill it with a Seamless wood texture. I run Distort>Polar Coordinates (circle depth set to 0). I then add shadow effects on the inner parameter to add the feel of depth. Would do a picture tut, but I'm back on my lazy M.O. right now, but the text tut should be good enough. :)

Sorry that I didn't address you earlier samj (running late earlier this morning). That would be cool if you could automate the process and would be most appreciated. :)

I guess using a closeup or a simple image is key to getting identifiable results. I'm happy with some of the abstracted results I got though.

My first try and it was actually some of the best results I got.

My last try after I'd started playing with the settings. I like this one too.

What you could do (and I didn't do so in the tut) is copy the original image on top and set to color. Do this too; may add this as an addendum to the tut later (or may not; just can't seem to get over my lazy today. lol). :)
