I didn't see this posted anywhere. If it is, please forgive me for reposting it. Pretty cool effect. Thanks, Lyle. :)

Thanks Mahvin; going to post the tut here too since I'm sort of getting tired of GIMPTalk going down. The post below is exactly as I posted it at GIMPTalk:

OK PC; I'll do a quick tut (but without any nuances)

First, grab the scull (http://www.flickr.com/photos/34520999@N ... /pool-gmic).

Dup and then run B/W Sketch on the Top layer

Now Copy the base layer to Top layer and set to Grain Merge and play with Opacity (Not showing result)

Flatten, Dup and run B/W Sketch on the Top layer (same settings; can play if you want, but I didn't here) and blend to taste

Image

Flatten and run PC's Smooth

Image

Dup and Rotate Image right

Image

Run Wind Distortion and rotate left (not showing Wind Distortion settings {because I forgot to save that capture; lol})

Image

Run Good Vibration filter

Image

Set the Top layer to lighten and blend to taste (not show that result) and then run German Flag Smooth Gradient Mapping
