Posting the link to the tutorial here:

https://www.mahvin.com/2010/11/gimp-tut ... -tags.html

Enjoy!

P.S. Let me know if I missed anything (I did this late late late, so it's possible).

Beautiful tutorial Mahvin. I do have a question..

In the three dialogs you posted, you posted a duplicate one (for the third choice). The first one was duplicated for the third one and the blue color needs to be changed to white but I don't know the positions for light #2.

I love the tutorial! It took me forever to get the text to look recessed! It kept coming out looking raised, and then suddenly is looked recessed and I don't know how I got it to work.

Very nice PM. If you stroked your path for the chain twice with two different greys, I think that would give you the little thingy between the beads.

(this is in the instrucs just before you get to the dogtag part.)

I corrected the menu images for the sphere design, O.

PM, your spacing on the chain brush needs to be a little higher. I had to run my sphere through curves twice, after adding a white blurred spot on the center top of the sphere. Other than that, looks cool.

I've heard that people who use both sides of their brain can see inverted images in both directions (inverted and bumped). Whether that is valid or not, I have no idea.

I did this, but I think I need to de-select the circle before stroking the path. The tut says to keep it selected.

For me that makes perfect sense. Years ago when I was going for some surgery, the Dr's commented about how perfectly symmetrical my brain was on the CT Scans and MRA/MRA's. They were even questioning if I was ambidextrous, which I am. I have to find the results of the brain personailty test I took. It also says the same thing.

PM: My mistake. You only need to leave the selection in order to Save to Path, then de-select it. I've corrected the tutorial to indicate that. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. :)

Well, I got right to the end of the tute (great tutorial BTW) and when I did the chisel script exactly the way it is in the tute with the same settings, mine didn't indent, it just came out like a sort of beveled raised text. I tried it six times the same way. I do have the latest script too... I put carve mode, location Outside , blur 1 and no bumpmap..... HELP :bawl

I blurred the chiseled layer, just enough to make it blend into the dogtag. Nothing special outside of that was done.

I put the tute together rather quickly, so I expected some omissions. Thanks for finding them. :)

Here it is with the modified tut. It still looks raised instead of indented, but here goes anyway.

that is beautiful PM.
My chisel tool doesn't invert, My text is raised. I also tried it in bevel and emboss with "O's" settings and the text still raises. I am getting angry.

Looks really good, PM. Good job! :)

Molly, I'm making a video tutorial this weekend to add to the tutorial page, because I think in addition to the text, it will help to see the process being done. So, don't get mad, get even! ;)

The difference on mine, between the raised or indented text was the difference between grain merge and grain extract of the "Chisel Bevel" layer.

That's still strange, though, PM. Because on my GIMP the only difference between Hard light and Grain Merge is Grain Merge lightens the bevel. The inverted look never changes. Maybe "MY" GIMP is the one with the problem.

Molly, try changing your layer mode for the chisel layer and see what happens.

I used Bevel & Emboss on mine. I seldom have much luck with the Chisel filter - I'm going to have to try your layer mode suggestions Mahv.

Something tells me an inverted bump map would work, too, providing the settings are deep enough, would need to experiment with that to find out.

O, just a quick question: Why are some of the balls different on your chain?

"O" & PM, your tags are beautiful. I love the bevel and emboss effect on yours O..
Mahvin, I did what you said. I tried a new text and ran it though the Chisel script. It didn't change anything. The text just remained the same.
I tried it with bevel and emboss and the text was still raised, so I tried every mode from the top down. It was still raised. Mine just doesn't want to indent.
BTW, I am running the scripts on the text layer, maybe that is why it isn't indenting the tag???

Note: "O" I noticed too on your chain that some of the beads have a white edge around them, it seems like they are in groups. every time it changes direction......
