so my gear induced headache has given birth to stars
(original thread, here: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5276)

just make a square canvas, draw a rectangular selection from the center (use some guides)
turn the selection into a path
then in the path tab, duplicate the path and rotate it by 30°
do this several times til you get a flowery star

then merge the paths with a rightclick

filling this shape or stroking the path on several layers and playing with layermodes gives you these babies

for those who want to try it without making the paths, i attached the .svg file

oh this was addictive! first i just did some simple ones, like this:

flowery star red.png
flowery star red.png [ 122.14 KiB | Viewed 2466 times ]

then i experimented a little bit more, here's what happened when i used a radial gradient overlay, duplicated the flower and blurred the top one, then set down the opacity. i love this, it looks like a pattern i saw on a paper bag from a florist's when i was a kid and have never forgot:

flowery star, pink w black edges, softed.png

and then this really delicious thing that happened when i used red edges instead of black, duplicated and gave one of the layers a radial motion blur:

OK, that's it. I have succumbed to my ego. Thanks to Esper's new tool, and following his example, my next metal creation will be called "AnMal Metal". :rofl

Thank you! :hugme

esper: that's very helpful, thanks :)!
erisian: you mean a "real" limit or just a psychological one? exactly how many smilies are we allowed if it was a real limit?
