Historical Hipster #2

Mon Nov 11, 2019 7:13 am

(From the archives of HHA (Historical Hipsters Association):
Portrait of Maria Henrietta Stuart of Orange, 1648.
Unlike her famous namesake and relative, Mary Stuart of Orange kept her head firmly on her shoulders. She showed her edginess by collecting kitschy broadside prints and hanging them from pieces of thick wire in her royal suite instead of just putting up an ornately framed VanDyck portrait. She collected spectacles and was often seen with a collection of plays by Molière in her hand, though she often expressed the opinion that the playwright's heroines were 'cliché manic pixie dream girls'.
Popularised the 'wardrobe remake' at court by frequently picking apart her gowns, putting them together in new ways and/or dying them mustard yellow.

This one is really cute. I'm always impressed by how seamless and natural looking your work is. :ffy :ffy :ffy

Erisian: Thank you, lovely, you know how much that means to me. But I do get a bit suspicious when you come with flowers and sweet words - have you broken my teacup or something?!

This is a nice piece of work! The large face and glasses matches the style well here. I love the describing text too, what a fun concept!
