Another in the 'songs before the digital era'.
Way back in the dim and distant there are childhood songs that really made you cringe - the ones your Mum and Dad listened to on the radio and TV. The words in the image below are taken from a big 1958 hit for Max Bygraves in the UK. A time when 78rpm records were still quite common.

You do beautiful things with your script, Skinnyhouse. Wonderful.

Thank you Pat - you are so kind - but you don't do badly at all yourself.

Skinnyhouse, you have worked hard with your scripts and you have great results in the thread, too.
I'd like to follow your steps but all of my tries on your last one turn to be fails for me. I get the text on the contrary and I don't know how to do it correctly.
If you had enough time, you would help so much showing your settings and next to it, the result. Could you? But if you can't, don't worry, I'll continue trying it. Thanks a lot.

Issabella: Just checking that you mean the paper hearts image and that you are using version 2.15 of JoinedUp Text.
Hopefully will post some help steps when I hear from you.

Thanks a lot Skinnyhouse. I did something following your steps. This time much better. my questions are:
How do you do to start the text where you want and the same to finish it?
When you get reduce the text, how do you control to be visible until the end?
When the text is vertical, is it separatly, isn't it?
The text: Beauty Beholder, what font did you do? I love it.
many questions...

Issabella: Nice effect - different to my over-lapping tissue effect. The font is called Solange - from Dafont.com - there are variations of it.
I almost always draw my own paths to sit the text along - that way I can be certain of the starting position. Occasionally I have to insert spaces within the text to 'push' it around a sharp angle or corner and sometimes I have used more than one path if there are abrupt angles to follow.
The vertical text was created by setting the angle of rotation to zero along a vertical path and by adjusting the spacing option to about 50. You can use the option to keep the text as individual layers which allows for individual adjustments.
Modifying the size of the text along a path is always a bit hit and miss. My method is to find the text size that fits the length of the text and then adjust the text modifiers to work around that. For example if a section of text fits a path at size 200 px I would try with an initial size of 100, a medial size of 300 and a final size of 100. It doesn't always work but it is usually a good starting point to play with. Altering the target for change slider can also improve things.
If you are reducing the size of a lot of text along a long path you can always use the Change size with spaces option for a more gradual reduction in size.
Hope this helps you some. Will think about it some more.

Thanks for your answer, Skinnyhouse.
I did a simple path and it was right. (see it on the left)
But I don't get a vertical text. I tried spacing it at 50 as you said, but it's the same only much more spaced the letters. So I set spacing at 10, so that you can see my result. I'd like to get it like that:
P
A
T
H
(in this way)
Then when I get it correctly, I'll try the following style for reducing size of the text.
Thank you so much.

Issabella: You're almost there - you just need to set the Rotate letters option to Yes by clicking on it in the dialog box.

Issa: And here is a help sheet - that sets out the way that I made the image in Gimp.

Thank you so much Skinnyhouse, every you said and what you posted help me a lot.
I got the text in vertical shape!
I'll continue experimenting the more other options.

Issabella:
That's good - looking forward to seeing how it ends up.
There is one other little tip. You can force the text to space itself evenly around the shape - almost like justification - by setting the Repeat text option when there is only room for one repetition.
An example with the font size set to 80 along the heart path. On the left - no repeat. Repeat text enabled on the right.

I am currently looking at an update to my JoinedUp filter to add an option to use the beautiful custom-font-xcf fonts that lots of people have been making. Although still a bit to do - things have been shaping up quite nicely.
Here's a test piece that uses custom fonts by Issabella and Pat625 and one that I have been working on:

Now here's a coincidence. I was working on a piece to fit the lyrics of 'Little Boxes' - a hit from 1963 - sung by Pete Seeger, using a custom xcf font and today our Prime Minister released major policy intentions to stimulate the house building programme here in the UK.

and a smaller version of the custom xcf font that I used here.

skinnyhouse: love your picture for that song! great work on fitting the custom xcf-fonts into the filter too.

AnMal: Thank you for your kind words - although I am sure that you are far too young to have actually seen Pete Seeger sing this song (before YouTube). The image is certainly a style departure from my usual offerings.
