The better solution would have been to use OpenGL since all cards would support this. Not sure why they chose CUDA (possibly got a kickback from NVidia or NVidia provided some free tools to them). :)

I didn't they could do that, now i know and I agree they should have...maybe they will when it becomes more popular demand...these ai talk posts about copy artist styles have only been out for like less than a month on most sites i have been to that talked about it so maybe it's still in research phase.

Wouldn't it be awesome if it was just a gimp filter with all possible settings imagined and was previewable real time...man that would be exciting.

Unfortunately, GIMP doesn't support GPU (and neither does G'MIC). If the plugin can internally, then that would be great. :)

edit:

PS plugins can internally support GPU too. Check thread below for link to a GREYC PS plugin that has GPU acceleration (GREYC was David (G'MIC)'s first plugin that I ever used over 10 years ago if memory serves me correctly now. It was slow as molasses. Well, the PS plugin is instantaneously quick. :)

This last Marley's quite impressive Tran. I just don't like giving out any of my email addresses for doing these type one hit wonders. :)

You don't have to give them a real email address i don't think.
I did but you don't have to...as all they do is email you the link same link to the artwork request page with the result added to bottom of page.
So if you don't want to give them a real email, just give them a fake one and some bogus password and then when you upload your images, save the that request page link that you uploaded your images to, and keep using that same link to check back to see when it's done.
They don't require you to verify email address or nothing.

here's another one using the same style.

OpenGL and CUDA are two different beasts. In OpenGL you call graphics function that are executed by the card. In CUDA you write possibly non-graphics related programs that can use all the power of the highly-parallel GPU.

Unless you are talking about OpenCL...which Gimp will support in 2.10.

What's neat too about this neural network generated art is it's slightly different result if you try to upload the same images again. I accidentally uploaded Bob Marley twice with the same style and the result was different. In one he had more of fangs like vampire and the background was slightly different.
So each time you generate a painting it's unique to that request, i think that's pretty cool.
I guess it has to do the with the randomness/probability of each neuron in the neural net (this is like us painting the same picture twice, they don't come out identical). cool huh?

do you mean the alien that is alive? or the AI system that paints it is alive?

I would love to do this if there was a way to have it immediate rather than have it emailed.

just do it :D..if you don't want to give them your real email. just give it a fake one and then save the request link (where you upload your images) and check back at that link once in a while.

generated 4 pieces to get a larger image...it's not seamless but still cool i think.
