So I thought why not keep my pics, manipulations, edits, style samples etc. in one topic like others seem to do. Begin with a cartoon/comic effort, using G'mic Engrave. The Engrave layer was set to multiply and colors brushed with mouse on white canvas below.

Putting your images into a single topic is a good idea. It works for Gimper and others. What I think is really great is you have started with an image of your Prime Minister. The eyes are just right and she's talking about a 4 day week. No wonder Finland is a happy country? I look at many of the English-speaking countries and they are disaster areas (literally in our case). All the best with it. I will be keeping up with it.

Nice work Nidhogg. I think it is a great idea to have an ongoing gallery or three. I was inspired to do this by Gimper66, OMG and level_0 who all have interesting galleries. |

Thank you all. @ Tas_Mania that's funny, you couldn't think it was our prime minister. Maybe I'll try her later. About the happiness...I do know we rank often at the top places in various surveys about happiness, stability and some other things. Makes living easier if you don't have to stress too much about next day...week...month or year I guess. In that sense I can say that I feel fortunate here in the distant northern corner. Wish all the best for you knowing the situation down there. Another comic test. Should have been more daring with shading, next time then. Gotta get that drawing tablet asap, coloring with mouse isn't fun.

Nidhogg: Great job on all of those! Like with ilzaf's images it would be fun to see before and after. And I agree it's a good idea to collect your work in a separate thread (says the lazy sod who has never bothered to do that herself  ).

Thanks racer-x, AnMal & level_0 Yes I'm working on a tutorial on this, it's just that some of the filters used need to be changed with each image, at least for now. The coloring method is tedious. I'm using the original and a posterized version that is created along the process as a reference, and paint mostly with hard brush beneath the lines layer. That's just how I like it, having worked with vectors for living is steering me to this style, even with pixels. I noticed the new guy, ilzaf mentioned he painted some of his pics with the G'mic colorize interactive, but I didn't just like the results of that method, the colors spread all around with long shades. Maybe it requires completely closed lines for the coloring areas or I'm just dumb. So there will be a tutorial, and I'll try later different styles. Probably weird doodling with the tablet I'm getting tomorrow, like we used to spend hours at school in the back row  .Loved the MAD magazine in teens, the comics were hilarious. And R. Crumb of course. Before and after. Original face from the AI web site.  And edited. Face took most of the time, hair was bit rushed.

One more, then I will need to work on the tutorial and "real life". Boooooring, why can't you just play GIMP all day? Before. It's the same ilzaf used.  New make-up. If you look at it at distance or 33% size you may think the face is shaded because of the light colors, but closer inspection revels odd shapes.

Thank you AnMal. and level_0. That's an interesting question, I will try something inanimate after Carla. The thing is that when you come up with a workflow, you always want to find new ways to improve or maybe change something. Meanwhile, another style I've recently been playing with, but not happy how some of the colors turn out in the process.
