I painted the original of this last night in about ten minutes as an experiment in painting light on dark. I've changed it since then as I felt the subject matter was too personal for the net.

Definitely like the Chiaroscuro Erisian.

I normally start with a mid value then add the main shadow followed by the main light. I might try doing a complete painting light on dark. Some of that Chiaroscuro artwork has a very strong lighting effect that I like.
