Gimpressionist is fast and easy to use, especially within scripts

I know how to do it as its very simple, images created by making a new brush using US 50dollar gimp brush

Actually I have more success using 'different brushes' etc than presets.
Usually leave it on default background, original picture and maybe just change brush and sizes

When you have set it all up go to Presets and just enter a new preset name in the text box then select 'Save Current' and it will save it to a new preset file

Figured out why I don't use presets. They do not work in my gimp. Even if I press refresh I still get the last used one. Have tried resetting, setting to default presets and refresh. Do I have to close and reopen gimp?

Assuming you have created a preset called "Sally1"_
- in the list of preset you see yours
- click to select it, then click on "apply"
- click to update (the preview) and you'll see the effect (approx)
- now click OK and the image will be modified according to your preset

In case you didn't already save any preset yours, do the following:
- start Gimpressionist with the defaults parameters
- change until you see an outcome you like (updating preview)
- enter a name to the links of "Save Current..." and click on save
- enter a small description to remember something of your changes
Afterwards you'll see your preset in the list of stored ones (there has to be a folder Gimpressionist in your (username)/gimp-2.8 directory, and inside a sub-folder Presets)

Another play.
Thanks Sallyanne for having revitalized this thread; Gimpressionist is really under-evaluated.

Don’t be afraid to start over. It’s a new chance to rebuild what you want.

I haven't made any presets at all. I was talking about the default presets. They are all over ridden by my last settings when in the one session
Tried again this morning. Last settings came up until I pressed 'apply'

I'm glad to have helped a bit.
You re-discovered this very interesting filter, a bit ignored, thanks.
