Dinasset: I downloaded Insane Bump from the Registry, removed the TXT extension and put it in the plug in folder. I keep getting errors and it will not run. What must I do with it?

Pat, InsaneBump requires normalmap filter
(normalmap.exe + .dlls)
go to:

download, unzip and place the .exe and the .dll in your plugin folder

Dinasset: I downloaded and unzipped normalmap. Put normalmap and .dll's in user gimp plugins. Not work. The .txt file with it said to put the normalmap.exe in the program plugins and the .dll's in the bin folder. Tried that, not work. In both cases as soon as I tried to run insane the errors would pop up that no image existed at the directory given, even though the file is already loaded. Is there another file that I need? Do I need to run normalmap first?

I attach here my version of InsaneBump, where I inserted a message when it doesn't find the file.
Try this one and see for which file is it looking.
In any case:
- delete current pluginrc from your user gimp folder to force rebuild the plugins list
- remove your current InsaneBump and insert my version (unzipped)
- run it and look at your error messages

Dinasset: I did not reinstall the normal map before putting in your version of insane.py. These errors are the same as when I installed normal map in the various places stated previously.

Is it really the path to your file? ../Patricia/.Everything ?

create a new folder under Patricia, name it TESTINSANE, put your source image in there and try again

after you have the image in the new folder, close and restart Gimp, otherwise the previous path is still in memory...
then open the image from the new folder and run Insane

note: Insane plug-in makes use of "gimp_image_get_filename".
This procedure returns the specified image's filename in the filesystem encoding. The image has a filename only if it was loaded or imported from a file or has since been saved or exported. Otherwise, this function returns %NULL
Thus use an image you saved in a folder.
Doing what I said, it's OK (taking the image and copying it into the new folder created)

Dinasset: There was a dot. I have no idea how long it has been there as I set up those directories a long time ago. What a Typo!! I followed your instructions and this is the result.

Now I must figure out how to control the result as your's was not black & white sketches.
I am full of problems today! Now that I have the dots out of the folder name, I cannot get GimpChat to realize that. When I Browse to upload an image, it shows the old folders with the dots even though they don't exist any more. I have closed all the programs and shut down the computer completely but it has not changed anything. Any ideas? Everything is correct in Windows Explorer.

for colour, just move the original on top and set it to Color (or something similar, GrainMerge, fpr instance).
About Gimp-chat remembering the dots, I do not know, maybe it is an ...elephant with a long-lasting memory!

Dinasset: May have been an Elephant! When I turned on the computer today all was well. I guess that elephant can learn new tricks.

Hi,
those two effects have been just published under Gimp Scripts & Plug-ins (thanks Gnutux), so you can play yourself with those.
I also submitted for release today a PlayWithAtmosphere filter which makes use of those, as well as providing additional effects shown above (Morning, Evening, Night).
