I think the idea of the tiger is great and mahvin you have done a great job of him. Micky is a good name as well...derived from G'Mic itself...BRAVO!!

Yes Jolie, I like your version, he is looking cute and friendly at the same time :)
Now, I find the upper right part of the 'C' of the G'MIC logo a bit strange, but this is not far from perfection to me.
Thanks again you all.

Damn ...today i am busy with something else, and i am going to a friend house that has no Internet connection so i can't try anything till tomorrow
But about the sad expression of the tiger:
That sad expression depend not only from the eyes but also from the wrinkles above the eyes.

The part about the eyes shape was corrected but still the wrinkles have a curvature that suggest sadness.

Note the curvature of the wrinkles, that is usually for sadness , more horizontal and less curved more will be neutral

Inverting the curvature instead will suggest malice, evil thoughts, or even rage (what exactly depend from the combination with eyes shapes, wrinkles above the eyes and curvature of the lips )

################

In few words :
in a tiger , the wrinkles above the eyes have the same function to determine the expression, then the eyebrow in a human face;
they may enhance or minimize the expression suggested by the eyes.

I've started to add Gmicky on the web page (my local version for now on). I see then that it would be nice to have a transparent background, because the background of the webpage is not perfectly white :

http://www.greyc.ensicaen.fr/~dtschump/gmic/index.shtml

Any suggestion would be appreciated too (I'm just dummy when creating web pages).

Only about the sad expression, this what i intend to invert wrinkles curvature
Please don't mind the rest of my edit the point was on the effect of that curvature

PS i know that "wrinkles" is not the right word to indicate the darker part of fur on a tiger face

Call as you like but anyway( in a stilized draw ) that may be used to suggest or modify the expression

Hey Mahvin it's the left eye when looking at the screen shows the sad/mad facial expression yet. Look to the inside corner it bulges a bit and has the black line. The right side appears flatter to me and makes the eye look rounder. Other than that I think it is perfect little tiger. Really that is the only thing I would change to make it look happy. :)

In animals since they have no wrinkles perse it is their eyes that tell you if they are sad, mad, happy, etc along with some really obvious body movements/language. My cats never really smile but their eyes and body movement tell me all. I do the same with my cows but then I feel their emotions. Just call me strange I have been this way since I was little. :)

I like the name G'micky or even Micky is great and it sounds just fine in my native language english or is that american?? :)

Liana

Edit: I tried to place the right eye where the left one is just to show. I think you could do a better job of clean-up Mahvin since you have the original. :)

I'd be happy to provide the xcf to let anyone have a crack at perfecting it.

The more I try to improve it, the worse it seems to get. I'd actually need to sketch it out again to incorporate a smile.

@ mahvin I am sure you are getting frustrated. I would do it for you but my painting and smudging skills are no where near as good as yours. :) You can see my funky eye. LOL

I still think it is great! :)

No, it's not frustration. It's differing points of views, everyone's perception of things are different.

Case in point: when I worked as a copy artist (layout for print media) my co-workers (not artists at all) would make suggestions on the lay-out, and I would oblige to a point, until the customer saw it and got seriously irate because I strayed from the original design. The translation or moral of this story is I need to focus on one person's idea (David's).

But I was actually hoping for more people to submit ideas and designs. I love that David likes my tiger, but who's to say someone can't design one better than me?

I understand what you are saying Mahvin. I would enter but I can't draw and I am just not good at the painting, shading, smudging part yet. LOL I have not got that figured out.

I make a mean plaid quilting sometimes. :)

David, I IWarped the image a little more, moved the nose up to make room for a smile (of sorts).

The eyes, well, I stuck with the original colors, because sketching from an actual cub image, the eyes look demonic no matter how I drew it. Unless we move to a total cartoon mock-up where the eyes are anime-like (enormously large) it will require a redraw.

I removed the G'MIC from the bottom, and the background is now transparent.

Let me know what you think.

The original looked most realistic though. :bigthup

I think most people here are either not able to, or are going to have a hard time to top it. You're a great artist.

Yes, I agree with Jolie. Removing the G'MIC logo is just a nice idea since it remove one focus to the logo, and we can stay concentrated on the tiger. But the previous tiger was looking more 'natural'.
Do not spend too much time on it Mahvin, you already made a fantastic work on this, and I already had a try in putting your mascot on the main G'MIC web page. I like the result (but it needs to be upscaled a little bit, I'm still experimenting). I forgot to put the credit for the picture too, sorry about that, I won't forget in my next try :)

I just want to give you something workable (agreeable) for whatever purpose you need it for. Leaving it any other way makes it feel like it hasn't been finished (what's a few hours of artistic doodling in comparison to say the countless hours you have put into G'MIC?)

Jolie, I liked the original, too.

PC: Those aren't wrinkles, they are stripes, tiger fur stripes.

I did move them up a bit, but after looking at literally hundreds of cub images, the stripes aren't really part of an expression of tiger emotion, unless you move to a cartoon based image. My image is (sort of) in between realistic and cartoon.

I appreciate everyone's comments, and thank you.

Here is my last reworking of the image, (it has a transparent background, G'MIC is removed):

Here's an xcf for anyone else to play with:
