Galaxy spirals are very easy with supernova. No drawing, no bells and whistles, just supernova, whirl and pinch, and 3D Transform and/or Scale. Just be sure to use hue when creating the supernova to get colorful variations.

An example of rendering a planet just using GIMP. No backgrounds, no star or planet scripts, no textures, no fancy gimmicks. I was quite surprised how simple it was without a script.

Rich is always recommending we just use the tools in GIMP, and I agree. Otherwise, you'll miss potential gems from using the tools. Since I'm in preparation mode for school, I find myself mixing things up without the use of scripts. Just for good ole fun...

Some cool results here, Mahvin. What was your process for making the planet without any scripting? Looks nice!

I'd have to revisit that posting in its entirety, although in short, not being an actual tutorial, I utilized the sphere designer in render, as well as bump map and normal map, used noise for the stars in the black background, then overlaid green, brown, and blue colors onto the planet. It was rather quick. Quicker than my putting together the different elements using scripts (and looking for them to use). I was actually challenging myself to create without the use of a script.

No, this is about 10 miles west of me. I live in Potlatch, ID. Our area is called "the Palouse" because it's primarily wheat crops. This town is in Washington State, the heart of "the Palouse".

I have been a long time follower of HeritageType Vintage fonts, and I use many in my CNC graphics work. I'm trying to minimize the steps I need to create the same effect using GIMP. So far, I have only had some success using Ofnut's envelope plugin, creating 3 separate envelopes. I'm sure if I could remove all the cloudiness that resides in my brain, I could sort this out faster, but my ultimate goal is to have this process automated using only GIMP.

Yes a great effect (I too have much of a brain fret at the moment) - and a cool font!

I found this picture of the Palouse Hills NE of Walla Walla.

I always think of the song 'Living in my own private Idaho' when I watch videos from Idaho (like Heavy D). Keep on keeping on Mahvin.
