Wallace and Sallyanne - thank you; I'm playing with portraits still but they are taking longer these days :( so in the meantime here is another quick brush mandala.

Ok, these are all so beautiful that I want to learn to make them too. I can create a brush but what are you all using to make the mandala? I feel so silly for asking.

I tried to figure out how you all make your mandala images from the brush. This is what I came up with but they don't come close to what the other member's are creating. I need to know how I make the mandala once I place my brush on a transparent layer.

Angela - glad you like these pics!

I use three different methods to create these mandalas with the brushes I make:

1.By hand using the brush then successively duplicating the layer(s) and rotating them
2. A script by TIn Tran called Mura Meister Copies - which also duplicates and rotates a layer
3 I also use the GIMP native option Symmetry Painting>Mandala

In some cases I 'create new from visible' then 'flip' it horizontally and in most cases I then add some extra touches through filters or whatever.

Hope this helps you; if you need any further info please just ask :)

Thank you so much! Your info is very helpful. BTW, I don't think you're grumpy at all :hehe

Angela - I'm grumpy by name but not by nature.

[[ edit -- i want back a bit to 216 and there is help there for making brushes -- thank you OMG ]]

Making brushes is a bit difficult for me
i understand the copy that makes it a brush
but making the elegant shapes that OldManGrumpy makes
looks super complicated.
I thought there was a function / script / tool to make steps between
two selections or paths or something.

The search will continue and i will keep trying
-- Thats where the real magic and fun happens --

leftyleo - just a couple of comments; I probably use the 'brush' more like a stamp, then add additional features with scripts/plugins. Also yes there are a couple of filters/scripts that create paths between paths. They can be used to make a brush or make a mandala itself. Just let the creative thoughts flow.

AH - like a stamp - now that makes sense
I should not think as much of the final direction
as much as just make a 'stamp' and see where it takes me

and i love the potential craziness of the brush in #243
now that is intriguing.
thank you

I am supposed to be doing portraits, but these mandalas are quick and addictive.

@ LeftyLeo - this brush was made using 'lines between paths' script.

Here is one where I used a brush that I had previously used in this thread. This time though, I applied some of my own brush dynamics to achieve the result, then added some GMIC filtering.

Given the recent references to 'Gimp fractals' elsewhere in the forum, I had a play, also using one of my own gradients.

Another Gimp fractal based brush/mandala.
