Just to clear things up a little 'ffBokeh' is not my script but one I got from Samj's old site, but I do recommend it
for finishing your photo artworks

Some cool bokeh effects. :jumpclap

So far, we've seen 3 ways to generate the effect in GIMP.

1) G'MIC
2) ff-bokeh script
3) Focus Blur Plug-in

Anyone know of other scripts or techniques for GIMP?

Another Focus Blur from this thread. I selected the section I wanted to be the "in-focus" foreground, then blurred the background to get the bokeh effect.

OK - Graechan or Samj or whoever, thank you; I like this script and the flexibility it offers. I do prefer the semi-auto form as it gives me more input and post creation tweaking options to play with, So I played a bit using some Vivid Sydney Light Festival image ...

The little bokeh moon/solar system was an error but I like it so I kept it!

What about the Samj BOKEH EFFECT VERSION 2 that you can find in File>Create>Pattern?

Don’t be afraid to start over. It’s a new chance to rebuild what you want.

Just grabbed this screenshot of a real example of bokeh on TV.

So, here is my attempt to simulate the same effect using Focus Blur.

Good explanation and article on bokeh, with examples of good and bad bokeh.
