Thanks a lot for your kind comments. But I feel quite a lot I really do anything except to follow the steps from the artists' videos who are so generous to share them. Especially from Chris Fiedler who is a wonderful artist with so much talent.

I couldn't get the effect right at all on this Wikipedia image so I combined aspects of your tutorial Issabella with aspects of another Gimp water-colour tutorial by FreakBits to get the effect I was after:



And changing the edges layer mode gives a water-colour with inked lines effect:

The important thing it's to be creative and enjoy the process. There are many ways to get nice results in watercolour effect. Thanks a lot for your contribution.

Well done Dinasset, I like both results, but lighter one it's even more beautiful.
Some people need to know the sizes of these photos affected, so they are these:
The upper one 316*416
The medium one 622*436
The bottom one 1560*1247

a few more outcomes

How time flies - I took the original of this 12 years ago with a tiny digital.
Dinasset: BTW my earlier contribution was intentionally light.
