Hello, On some photos, I like when an emboss effect is applied after the "cartoon" effect. Here is an example: Attachment: small_farm_k7862-1_bd_emboss2.jpg [ 869.84 KiB | Viewed 4527 times ] Enjoy! |

I am wanting to try this script but I have recently upgraded computers and OS and am trying to get this to work but I am getting the following error. I have installed gmic via synaptic as well as downloading it and placing it in the gimp folder with permission to execute but still cannot get it to work. I have forgotten to do something which I forgot, ![]()

Nixnine, I think you have to install gimp-gmic (not gmic) (It's not the same package). |

@nixnine Is this an upgraded ubuntu studio ? Which version (based on ubuntu) 20.04 or a latest 21.something. There is a gimp-gmic package in the 20.04 repo but it is old, gmic_gimp_qt 2.4.5 If installed it should still show up bottom if the filter menu providing you have QT5 installed. The default Gimp for 20.04 is Gimp 2.10.18 Is that the version you have ? If you have, say, a Gimp 2.10.24 then it is probably a flatpak, since that comes with python support, which you obviously have, but then that needs a flatpak version of gmic_gimp_qt. All sorts of permutations and combinations. A bit of that extra information would help. |

nixnine wrote: I am now running a fresh install of Mint 20.1 Gimp version is 2.10.24 gimp-gmic 2.4.5-1.1 is installed. Narrows it down a bit. As far as I know the default Gimp is 2.10.18 and 2.10.24 is installed. Where does 2.10.24 come from ? (1) It could be the ubuntuhandbook1/gimp PPA but that comes without python2 support and you have a python plugin running. So maybe not that. (1a) If you have a regular installation and python2 installation, QT 5 might be missing. Often the case with lightweight desktops such as Xfce. (2) It could be a snap version of Gimp, at the moment no info on that but I will get it. (3) It could be the flatpak version of Gimp. In a terminal enter flatpak list and see what you get, something or nothing. If it is a Gimp flatpak then you install the gmic_gimp_qt flatpak version 2-40 for Gimp 2.10.24 Enter the relevant number and follow the directions. Thanks Nixnine, Doronf2, Nidhogg and Rich2005 for your very valuable feedback. ![]() (I hope Nixnine will come back and tell us more on the problem.) Note that the result depends on the size of the photo. If you want rougher lines,

You can also brighten or add contrast to your images, depending on your line thicknesses... |

Hello, ![]() Thanks, mahvin! Here is a "groove" plug-in to make this effect. (it depends on gegl_command.py)
Enjoy! (I think I should have put this thread into the Scripts and Plugins section.)

Linux users need the gegl package from their repo, it is not a Gimp dependency. Windows users, gegl comes with the samj portable and if you use that there is no problem. Regular Windows Gimp needs the gegl.exe binary and you can get one here: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=18040&start=20#p256140 Otherwise works fine. example: Attachment: gegl.jpg [ 168.88 KiB | Viewed 8633 times ] |

![]() ![]() Note: On my PC, it works without having installed the gegl package ![]() (I've installed Gimp 2.10 by flatpak on Linux). |
