Thanks to all for comments and suggestions. How do you fix ragged edges? (I'm new to all this artistic stuff. Before I joined this forum I just used Gimp to try to fix old family photos.)

Thank you Anmal. I started with a logarithmic spiral (Path shape creator)
As for sequins etc I didn't think of that, I thought it was quite plain.
Haven't followed your tut yet. May tonight when I get home.

Molly, it is post #51. You can really tell when you zoom in that the edges are jagged. I have been reading more about jagged edges. Which method do you use to smooth the edges?

Make sure you have antialiasing ticked when doing text or shapes. Ofnuts will tell you it is always better to stroke paths not selections. (You can go 'select to path') so whatever you are making turn it into a path then give it a stroke. Or try a small blur on your edges.
By the way, 'Pretty paisleys' :bigthup

OMG I like your chess set

Making Paisleys could be addicting!! Tried to smooth the edges of the butterflies better.

Very clever. As for being addictive, Anmal could tell you it probably is :gimp

Wow - who says paisleys are addictive - cannot see how or why ;)

Wallace, Pat625, Moko, Sallyanne - terrific results Gimpers and as for the shirts (I must try that!) .

So just to prove that I am not addicted ... here is another one for you Anmal, some sugary, iced paisleys treats in a box ... a plethora of pathed paisleys ...

woohoo, things are happening here :)!
pat25: those paisley butterflies are soooo beautiful! :jumpclap very imaginative and beautifully done. i see sallyanne helped you with the edge thing already (and there's certainly no jagged edges in the butterfly pic, it looks very pro). another tip when you have an object with very jagged edges is to make a copy of it on a layer below it, blur the copy by a low value (between 5 and 10 is usually enough) and then go to "colours" ->"curves" and set "channel" to "alpha, then make a vague s-shape of the curve, til you get the kind of edges you want. takes a bit of practice but gives you very nice looking edges once you've learned!
mokonafan: yaaaay, you came in to play with us! lovely work, as usual, very moko :). i like those rainbow sequins on the head and tail ends, a nice touch. of course, they might not be sequins - i saw them in wallace's and sallyanne's paisleys too and sallyanne said she wasn't thinking of sequins at all. but i can't help being a pink fluffy girl annd seeing sequins here and there :hehe .
wallace: my hat's off to anyone who thinks of placing the pattern differently on the pocket of a gimped shirt! looks very authentic.
sallyanne: well, maybe paisleys are a tiny, wee bit addictive, but at least they're not as bad for your stomach as coffee! :hehe
oldmangrumpy: more paisley sweets for me?! yum! i really like the way they look, pure eye candy. did you use ofnuts path inbetweener script?

I did more then the pocket alone.
I gave some thought as to how a shirt is actually constructed.
Each color is a different part of the shirt, where the pattern was moved and or shifted into a different positions.
Excluding the buttons, which were given a color overlay rather the using a pattern overlay.

Anmal - Yes, I first create the initial path for the paisley shape, then I duplicate the path and scale it to about 20% and offset it against the large version.

Then I use Ofnuts 'path inbetweener" with, typically, the deceleration parameter to produce the path set. The I use Ofnuts 'stroke/fill visible paths' with one of my gradients using different size brushes. Finallly fill the bottom path with one of your patterns and blend them!

Here a few of them full size ...

Or, of course, I can use fellow Aussie Graechan's Alpha Shine script ...

Sallyanne - I love those paisleys; paisley inside paisley and I must try to emulate your images.

Hope this one qualfies as a paisley! Paisley paths - love them too.

Thank you OMG :)
Yours looks very interesting. I think it just has to be shaped like a paisley and you seem to be getting the pattern right....I think any how.
