I have not forgotten this thread! I am in Greece with my small travelling laptop and a slow wifi connection. (Earthquake proof buildings have a lot of steel which blocks the signal.) The experiment with contrast masks within luminosity masks. IMG_7661. Scaled 50% width & height. Attachment: IMG_7661.JPG [ 1.21 MiB | Viewed 1235 times ] Here is the Layers Pallette, where Lum 1 copy has been desaturated, inverted and a small amount of Gaussian blur added. The mode has been changed to soft-light. This reduces contrast in the darkest parts. Lum 4 copy, desaturated and changed to soft-light mode to increase the contrast in part of the sky and the sea. Attachment: layers_pallette.png [ 33.14 KiB | Viewed 1235 times ] IMG_7661_1 is the result. This is an experiment and I need other people to tell me if this could be a useful technique!

Happy vacation David! ![]() ![]() About your contrast Mask in luminosity masks seem to work perfect. I see the result really nice and balanced. ![]() |

david wrote: This is an experiment and I need other people to tell me if this could be a useful technique! Happy holidays ![]() Useful... It all depends what you are searching for. Thus take my comment as a point of view > not knowing what you are searching for with this technique ![]() What I saw is that a lot of details/textures are washed out, like the trees' bark and the cliff, color artifacts appear everywhere, especially on the edges like the yellowish plant at the bottom left or the trees' leaves. It looks like you wanted to do patches of "cartoon-ish" style without the full effect of a cartoon style (I don't know if I explain well). In the end, if it was the effect you were searching for, why not, that might be a useful technique you might want to keep. ![]() |

@PixLab, Thanks for your comments. What I was trying to achieve was to modify contrast within one masked layer of the luminosity masks without affecting other layers. The previous example was grossly overdone. Here is another try for your comments. IMG7862_1 Attachment: IMG_7862_1.JPG [ 3.4 MiB | Viewed 1389 times ] |

IMG7862_1 Attachment: IMG_7862_1.JPG Way better IMO ![]() (I would add a tiny bit of contrast, but it's just me today or my livingroom receive too much light from that very sunny day and affect my monitor ![]() |

Back from Greece. I have to catch up on my homework! I have continued the experiment of using contrast masks within luminosity masks on these three images. IMG_7900. Used desaturated copies in soft light mode (at 50% opacity) on layers 4 and 5 to increase contrast in the brightest areas. Attachment: IMG_7900_1.JPG [ 3.78 MiB | Viewed 1300 times ] IMG_7903. Layers 2 & 3 duplicated, desaturated, inverted and a small amount of Gaussian blur (3.5px). In soft light mode at 50% opacity. Attachment: IMG_7903_1.JPG [ 4.78 MiB | Viewed 1300 times ] IMG_7904. Similar process. Attachment: IMG_7904_1.JPG [ 4.08 MiB | Viewed 1300 times ] |

These two photos I have used only the luminosity mask plug-in. IMG_7865. Attachment: IMG_7865_1.JPG [ 5.59 MiB | Viewed 1287 times ] IMG_7889. Attachment: IMG_7889_1.JPG [ 2.21 MiB | Viewed 1287 times ] |
