I'm impresed that you seem impressed Rod. :) PixLab actually pointed us to the recursive transform and it's use with text. If you look back in this thread, (Page 45 starting post 448) you will probably see better ones. I'll find the page number and edit it into my post.

:jumpclap :jumpclap Great stuff again Rod & Sallyanne...
Really like the hairy one Rod - bit hot here (and going to get hotter) for wearing a bearskin fur - but I can dream.

Skinnyhouse thanks a lot for your answer on #477, also your latest Faux3D is impressive
racer-x your metallic leaf effect is fantastic!

Sallyanne about this (below)
sallyanne wrote:
Is there a tutorial on how to use the Lathing in GMIC? I keep getting circles no matter what I put in[/align]

There is 1 slider you do need to push at first to see what you will get
It's the "Max Angle"

The attachment screenshot_20211203-172821.jpg is no longer available

Then just after move the "Y-Angle" to put the letter back in the good direction

Now you can start to play with all sliders to see what they do :bigthup

Also one thing very important, you DO NOT do the "full word" at once, but letter by letter for example make the letter G, then once rendered by G'MIC, made the letter I, and so, one letter at a time (that's very important),
Tip: no need to re-open G'MIC for the next letter, if your setting are good and happy with the first rendering, just do a Ctrl+F on the next letter/layer and G'MIC will keep the setting and render the next letter in no time with your previous setting or you can tell G'MIC to apply to "All layer" as input :bigthup

This is quite a fun toy to play with. :bigthup

I am going to have to try a pattern above the working layer next. :coolthup

Cool guys. I find that lathing is a little difficult to master Rod, so dont use it so much. I see you have it down pat straight away. :)

Not really that difficult once you figure out the layer size you need. GMIC seems to enlarge the text quite a bit.
So you have to create your original layers a bit bigger than your lathing object(text, or other shape). Then center your shape in the layer. If you want a pattern "Overlay" effect just create a top layer filled with the pattern of choice and make sure you have GMIC use active layer and above layer.

Pretty simple really. :paint :bigthup

While playing with an effect like the one Wallace used in #753 - this one produced an interesting look (although not the same)...
