Inspired by a photo of eric moung, thought I'd have a go myself.

Fairly pleased so far, still a lot of work to do for improvement. The biggest hurdle to overcome is to get the colours of the two photos fairly evenly matched, plus there is still a little white edge to the image.

The technique I tried was fairly straight forward.

1. you need two photo a front view and side view.
2. open both as layers. then scale one image to match the eye line and mouth line of the other image, I'm sure there is a script which will help do this but couldn't think which one it was, so maybe some will point us in the right direction on that.
3. position the side profile so it lines up with the centre line of the front view.
4. Select the side profile and use this to cut out the front profile.
5. then cut out the nose area from the side profile.
6. merge side profile Nose and cropped front profile together and tidy up image.

Well done, he4rty.
Nice and convincing example of optical illusion.

He4rty,
The text effect was very good. In the second image was perhaps even better. Although I would prefer to keep his original size.

I enjoyed myself a bit with this effect. :hi5

I'll try after mixing the front view and side view face of different people. :hehe
Thanks a lot!

impressive, very impressive

saw this earlier and mind was blown !

the correction of the forehead in V2 is very good
i think the chin-neckline still looks kind of odd, a bit like a double chin

im not sure about the textcolors (matter of taste i guess), but it appears as if the colours are reflected in the guy
and thats something i like !

another detail that could get improved is the line from the brigde of his nose over the cheek to his mouth
i think its still too harsh and depending on how you look at the illusion it looks odd

other than that the whole piece is very perfect
just the blur effect alone is awesome !!

Akros - Wonderful results, you'll have to let me in on the secret of how you blended the images so perfectly.

Esper - Thanks for the feedback, pretty much agree with everything you have said, not done much photo manipulation before so learning some new techniques.

He4rty, you have undertaken a very difficult task. I applaud your efforts. Looking at Eric's images they all have a slight highlight on the nose to make a "rounded" nose appearance. Also the nose is deliberately set in further in the face to make the end of the eye be in line with the edge of the nostril. This makes a more believable fuller frontal image but it distorts the profile silhouette. I don't know how important the profile silhouette is to the owner of the images. But where in the world do you get frontal and profile images? I've searched "celebs" , including the Queen! I don't really know if the profile or the frontal should have precedence or how much distortion of the profile is allowed to make both aspects believable. Great stuff!

He4rty you're being generous, thank you for the compliment.
I just tried to follow your tips in Mind Blown.
As my English is insufferable, I debated me in understanding the details, but overall I got the essence of the steps (at least I think I caught). :puzzled

The blend I got using mask layers. For color correction I used curves.

In this example had more difficulties, the halves are faces of different people. I think the correct selection of images helps a lot. But as he had started, tried to end soon. Search faces with front view and side view is tiring.

Thanks for the fun! :tyspin

wbool63 - Thanks for the comment and the tip on moving the nose back slightly
Akros - Lovely work again and well blended.

The photo's used I had taken specially for this effect. But a quick photo search using "face front and side view" offers quite a few results.
