I have been practising using that beastly path tool and I am determined to master it until I get it to do what I want not what it wants. This is one of my first tries making a background with paths.

That is very good, Molly. But if you want to improve it more, sure you will. :bigthup :bump

very pretty, Molly, how do you get the lighter tones along the inside edges of the shapes? Do you use inner glow?

Molly, perhaps could you make a tutorial to people like me that need a little more of help? :) :clap

I would love to Issabella but I am just learning myself. I got my idea from Dietmars nice tutorial then I wanted to take it further with the white edges and without the layer masks. It is all trial and error. Here is another one I have been working on.

I will ask the person that helped me if he is willing to share his video.

Ok, I started out by doing Dietmars tutorial and fell in love with the concept because I am always having problems coming up with some nice backgrounds. I ran into all kinds of problems trying to figure out how to put the white edges on my paths so Wallace came to my rescue and did two small tutorials to show me how he does this without the masks. He gave me permission to post them on u-tube and to share them with who ever is interested.

After watching Wallace's tutorials, I decided to give it a try, but boo hoo, I can't get my path to close. Now I have to go figure that one out, never had a problem before. Still, I did manage to get shapes even though I still cannot close my paths, I just make the open area off the canvas. I tried 3 different ways of doing the forms, the blur and stroke with white, ditto with dark color, and one with light inner glow and dark stroke. Many ways to skin a cat. I don't care much for my design, but it was a quick one and I was annoyed at my path tool.

Looks pretty good 2-ton. I know what you mean by the path tool, it can be very un-forgiving. If you make 4 bullets around where you want to make the path, hold your finger on ctrl and click on your first bullet and your path will be closed. Try making your background darker and your paths will show up better.
