Hi all here's a digital painting I did recently, any critiques would be welcome, thanks.

Software: Gimp
Hardware: 15.3 inch Intel Celeron 2.13GHz laptop, optical mouse
Process: Digitally painted in Gimp based upon a reference photo.

Painting looks great but, unless you are going for caricature, the guy's head's way too small in proportion to his body. :)

I agree with lylejk. The technique looks good, but even in "heroic" proportions, the head would be larger.

He reminds me a bit of the Doom Marine.

Think the head should be a little bigger. Everything else is good! I like the coloring. :3

artloader: well, you've got comments from others on the proportions, so i won't mention the head - i think it looks well sculpted and you certainly seem to know what you're doing.

Appreciate the comments guys - thanks.
Yep - I think you all have a point about the proportions - I like using heroic proportions but I do have a tendency to overdo it.
I've just recently started using reference images and I am learning a lot from doing so.
