Wow! I can't say which one I like the most. Beautiful brilliant results, OMG. Not many people have your creative talent, so it's always a pleasure to see your awesome creations. I'll try to do something and if it goes well, I'll add it to your thread. :clap :bump

I first used bevel reflect than did a glass effect overlay, but it doesn't look very glassy.

But your BRL map must be very glassy. Was it glassy the map you used for that?

The colored layer is just a brl layer, but then I used a crystal glass map layer over the top and grain merge, but it still isn't as glassy as I wanted it to look. I was looking to have it look more like cut crystal, so I will play with crystalizing it next.

How can I make a bright red gem type map? This looks nice and glassy, but I would like it to look more like it was made out of cut glass, i.e. faceted.

2-Ton, I attach my crystal maps so that you can test them if you like. wgmap17 was given by Wallace and gemclear by OMG. the other ones are the ones I have, two are faceted as you like. Think that you can then give different colour to your result, also play with layer modes. I hope that it helps you. :)

Issabella - thank you as always :)

2-ton - not sure if it is something like this you are looking for; 'cut glass', 'faceted' or 'crystal' effects may not come easily with BRL (well not for me anyway!). I also think that font is an important factor here too. Anyway best I could get tonight was this and I saved my settings just in case - font was Constantia Bold.

Well at last I have produced an 'APNG' animation; tried so many times using the GIMP plug-in but failed, so I took the advice of K1tesseraEna in some thread I found. I downloaded 'APNG Anime Maker' which takes exported PNG layers from GIMP.

So we have a Truchet patterned glass 'Gimp Chat' space ship with throbbing light pulses ...

Much better than GIF I believe.

Nice one omg. I love the effect. My workaround with APNG was to import the frames as an image sequence into VirtualDub (VDub) and save as APNG but I seem to have forgotten something because it's not working for me anymore. I'll have to try APNG Anime Maker.

Thanks Isabella, I have gem clear and map 17, but will be anxious to try the others. I guess I want the look of a faceted gem in something that is not round. It may be that I need to do the crystalize tutorial, but I don't have the Gmic filters I need and haven't had time to try and add a new Gmic to my McGimp, if that is even possible as Gmic is already natively programmed into it. I hate to add a different gimp because McGimp works so well.

Pat625 - hey Pat, if you can do clear then you can do black. Here is the workflow and its both easy and quick ...

1. Create your glass object' using BRL against my 'gemclear' emap
2. Duplicate the layer
3. Apply standard GIMP 'Colors>invert' to the duplicated layer
4. Change blend mode of duplicated layer to 'difference' - you will then see a dull black image
5. Duplicate this layer and whacko ... a shiny black glass object.

Have some more 'black glass fun' :hehe

Hello! Thanks for telling me how to get the black glass. I think it is beautiful. I am having a problem with paths, though. I select a path to selection, then one to subtract from the selection, but all it does it get rid of the path to selection. Could not get it to work tonight at all. Any thoughts on what is wrong?

For all those in cold regions, its another mid to high 30s day here so plenty of time to sit in the aircon and play with GIMP.

Serendipity, I believe in luck, sometimes produces results that can be explored further. Today I accidentally filled a selection with a pattern that had a great deal of transparent areas and ran BRL. Whilst it was not what I wanted at the time, it does give some interesting results so I had a quick play with Wallace's new shiny emaps ...

Image

... and text paths can be cut from the filled area too before running BRL ...
Image

... and a similar approach works with text too ...
Image

... so much to learn :)
