I will be working on a script to create this effect on a text layer. :)
If there is interest i will share the script here.

I included the xcf workspace file to give you an idea how the channels were used with lighting effects.

Ideally the text bevel should be rounder and i will work on that also.

That would be cool. I know that I'd be interested.

Don’t be afraid to start over. It’s a new chance to rebuild what you want.

Thanks Issabella you can get the older versions here.
download/file.php?id=6052

I would like to re write these again to include channel selections and effects. Not many peopke realize you can do effects on channels. :)

For instance in the image below i added a 20 and 20 noise-spread and then a 5 x 5 gaus blur to get the Photoshop effect of "Crystalize"

Very nice Rob. Can you create a script with the tutorial I wrote Reptile skin, about 2 years ago?

Hi Conbagui.
I prefer not to use layerfx-2.8 as it has a slew of problems running in filters from all versions of GIMP. But i will try and script the tutorial using layerfx.py. :bigthup

Here are the results with layerfx.py.
Perhaps you could show me a picture of the layer stack after effect is finished? Give me an idea of where to push the layers for the correct effect. Mine doesn't look quite the same. Of course we have a different type face and gradient but we need to try and make the effect somewhat the same as yours with layerfx-2.8.py.

Thanks!
