Once you create paths, you then stroke with a 1px dot with 800px spacing, Diego. You then save the result as a PBM file and reopen it (converting to 2-bit doesn't cut it and I've not tried to find an alternative method). Once you get your dots, you run G'MIC>Contours>Skeleton (quick method) which converts those dots to blocks. You then invert for the mask. I add an outline (isophots) to give you a more accurate mask. Use the mask under Testing>Lylejk>Blend (shape average) to colorize the blocks. :)

edit:

OK Diego; quick and dirty tut.: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=13703

No reason to start yet another thread. I used di Blasi's mosaic creator just to create the outlines (see attached) and then did some advanced texturing to make the cobbles look real. :)

These are exceptional, Lyle. Now wouldn't it be great if a filter could be created to do this for us technically disabled!

Thanks Odin; cheated a bit with this one (used Amphisoft's Metalwork2 as part of the texturing.). :)

Yes Lyle, I'm working...
I need a lot of tests.
When ready I will post my "variation on the theme" following your tut and hints.
The filter will be called "DIEGO_Mosaic_Lyle_Style"....
