Very nice, OMG! And you said that you needed inspiration?

BTW, (Hint, Hint) I remember someone asking for a tutorial on how you did such nifty wood carves with Chisel and Carve. That got lost because there were so many other requests and scripts arriving along with vacations, return to school, etc. Do we know anyone who could (would) do that?

Pat - OK, yes I will put something together by way of a tutorial on chisel/carve. It is such a powerful and flexible tool, can provide both delicate and strong features and I like it because it is non destructive. Also, retaining/reusing the bump map which it provides allows additional capabilities (used it in the wood spiral below).

I have posted a couple of images below - one wood and one using a gradient from Tin's new svg gradient script - so should I just focus the tut on carving wood or shall I include other 'textures/patterns'?

WOW, both of the images are superb. Please include wood and other textures. I would love to learn how you made those images. It looks like the chisel and carve filter can be very useful if you know how to use it. Thank you in advance, OMG!

I know this is not the level of difficulty as the last tutorials, OMG, but I wanted to visit the thread and get in some practice which is always needed.

looks like basically you need to think of it as a bump map+ image to selection...cool effect!

OMG, that carving looks quite complicated. How did you do that? (You know I always ask!)

Pat - actually it is not that complicated. It is just initially from a square path, which is then duplicated and rotated 45 degrees. That path is then reduced in size and given the same treatment; then you continue that approach until you reach a reasonable size square in the centre to finish off.. It is just a matter then of selecting and subtracting paths to get the sequence of triangles each time.

For each of the carvings, I measured the size in pixels to the centre of each triangle and made that the bevel width size each time for the carving.

Thought I would do a wood carving variant of this same image (posted elsewhere, earlier) too. :)
