You can thank Diego for this binge that I've been on this past week (posted a few elsewhere). :)

Love your binges, Lyle! Does this qualify for Craquelure?

Thank you, Lyle. I hope you get your computer set up again soon. Sorry that happened. When I was working on a Master's degree years ago, I lost most of my research and paper due to a computer crash. We had a lightning storm and it never worked after that! Took me many nights burning the midnight oil to catch up. Now I make backups when doing something important.

Remember we love your binges, so hope your computer is functional again soon.

I hope this is an acceptable Craquelure as I do not know if there are rules concerning types of images on which it should be used. (Maybe I should take art classes). I did this while waiting for Lyle's binge to get into full swing.

I found a Craquelure Plug in (Photoshop) which was a free download. I did this image which was set mostly on the defaults. I don't know how Lyle did his but it is probably more realistic.

I had that same plugin, Pat. Nice results. I was pretty much up to ready in 6 hours. GIMP kept most of m plugins (all GIMP plugins) intact. Had to finagle a few of the PS plugins again, but they all work now (the ones that I regularly use that is). I'm have just not been that creative of late. Have a lot of things going on now but hopefully all will be made well soon. Anyway, hope to continue to and be inspired here at GIMPChat. :)

Pat, did you try G'MIC Cracks? IMO better than Photoshop plug-in

Dinasset: No, I haven't tried G'MIC Cracks yet. I'm still not familiar with all the filters in G'MIC. Will have to try it! Thank you. The first image I did I took a Craquelure pattern on plain background that I found and put it over my image and played with the opacity until I got the best image. The second one I found a pattern and deleted all the color and just kept the cracks and placed that over an image. I found the plug in for the last one.

Thank you Dinasset. I had just found it. I see what you mean. The G'MIC cracks look more like the cracks on old china or ceramic dishes and plates. When I first looked at the filter, the size of the crack spaces were larger and it reminded me of the mosaic stained glass leading! Here are two attempts on the same image with different settings. I was going for subtle markings.

I do not like the second one now that it is posted. Originally looked darker.

I really like your mythical apple image. The cracks almost look inlaid. What settings did you use to get that?

(I don't have the original, thus the cracks go over those you created already)

just out of curiosity, are the cracks on their own layer? I have no time to play but thought the cracks might look more realistic and interesting if they could be bump-mapped to the original photo.

2-ton: The cracks are on the image, not on their own layer.
