I enjoy the softness in the back ground of the first one, and the
clarity of the face in the 2nd one!

Thanks, good suggestion.
Too easy to merge the two images using a mask, thus I do not post it, but it would be certainly better than the single two.

- convert indexed 4 colours
- add a texture layer (difference)
- add source img (color)

For the second one I did just what I said, no bump (the texture was applied on the whole image).
For the first one I used a filter called "insane bump" (not mine), discovered thru Gimp Forums, than played with mode/opacity

The girl-1537527_960_720_insane.jpg -- this one is my favorite.

The atmospheric effects 2 and 3 look like rain and snow.

these were produced with two simple filters I already sent a week ago to "Gimp scripts & plug-ins" to be officially released (maybe Gnutux is in vacation); as soon as they are released you may use them and get those effects yourself, Artloader.
I have also another atmospheric effects filter, but because it has those two "ancillary functions" as prerequisites I have to wait sending it.
