Steps

1. Colors -> Saturation enhance
2. GMIC/Details -> Freaky Details
3. GMIC/Details -> Dynamic Range increase

these are my steps, Pat:
Use Levels tool
1-cut the extreme values by setting input range (e.g.) from 16 to 239
2-increase Red luminosity by setting mean value (e.g.) to 1.6
3-increase Green luminosity by setting mean value (e.g.) to 1.4
4-decrease Blue luminosity by setting mean value (e.g.) to 0.5
then
5-desaturate the image by luminosity
6-duplicate the layer and set mode=Burn opacity at 60-70%
7-flatten
