trying to make a logo that will look good across platforms...so hard to not embellish and (ultimately) wreck it...

Thanx @Issabella! And thanx to you too @Blighty II, I like it, but the reason the blue circle was behind the orange, is because of what the logo represents. Agf is a forum and game server for an online game that involves circles, where the larger ones "eat" the smaller ones, thereby the bigger one overlaps the smaller one...representing the game mechanics.

I think this logo should be made in Inkscape, much easier, no jaggy edges, etc.

First of all: what does the logo represent ? What does it stand for ? What is the message ?
Are the circles bubbles ?
Or planets ?

You say the circles eat the smaller one. I dont get that from the logo. Maybe go for a circle shape with a mouth like pacman ?

My main issue would be the way the letters are inside the circles looks unbalanced
Also the colors could be improved.
Try a colorscheme designer, like paletton.com for example.

I'm just cracking into inkscape now, (starting 3 days ago) and it's still a little foreign to me, but that's what prompted the overall concept for the logo (I'll rebuild it there once I become a little more proficient). The logo is for a forum that runs some modified clone versions of the game Agar.io which you would have to play for the design to make sense (AGF stands for http://agarioforums.io/). After several variations on the lettering, I opted for the "unbalanced" look as it seemed more playful. The colors I used all came from the game server itself, and the image could also be monochromatic (as a button on a site for example). The website you recommended (paletton.com)is really cool, and a useful tool for choosing complimentary colors.
This is essentially a concept piece that I plan on rebuilding using vector tools, but as I still am not proficient in any way with inkscape, I built it in GIMP to just get it out of my head and put it on paper (so to speak). The object here was to create a logo design that was extremely simple so as to be visually apealing across digital platforms (pc,tablet, phone). You can see the movement towards simplicity in branding design everywhere on the internet for the same reason I listed. I do this for fun, but at the same time, would like to stay on top of modern trends. Ideally after being done in inkscape it will be cleaner and highly scale-able (I just need to teach this old dog some new tricks).

I didn't read the other replies but the logo'd edges are kinda rough you might wanna smooth them out.
Other than that it looks fine to me. :3

How is the logo supposed to read? AFGO? AGFO?

It will be much crisper and cleaner at any size if made in Inkscape or another vector program.
May i suggest placing all 3 letters "A,G,F" in one large circle and have it eat another smaller circle?

I haven't been on much...learning inkscape has proven difficult for me.... @ofnuts it's just AGF (agarioforums)
@Rod , that's a good suggestion and as soon as I get past the crawling stage in vector art, I'll give that a whirl...for now art has become difficult as I'm short on time, and I'm restricting myself to an unfamiliar set of tools until I can get a better understanding of how to use them.

wow cool @mahvin I honestly really messed around with it tonight! Fun set of tools that I'm sure I'll figure out....trying to figure out krita with my kid too, that program is pretty cool.

Another great resource is Heathen X podcast. You will learn quite a bit about Inkscape with these two guys.
http://www.screencasters.heathenx.org

Even though they no longer podcast there is a lot of useful info on Inkscapes tools to be found there. :D
