last collage with dollfaced character for some time! i'm doing some tests to see what tasks at work i'm best suited for and it's going to take up most of my time after christmas is over, so i won't do much gimping. i called this one "vinterhuldra" - "vinter" is of course "winter" and a "huldra" is a female forest being of great beauty but also of great cunning, mischief and occasionally danger - she may lure humans into her domains and get them lost in the forest. don't worry, though, this one is too busy decorating her forest with winter beauty to lure you anywhere :).

Nice to see some more Scandinavian mythology here. :) That Skogsrå is cute - I think she probably has more clothes in this picture than she's usually depicted as having in the lore though ... ;)

AnMal, you always have very special and unique outcomes.
I love them.
It seems like a cold winter in Scandinavia :)

Really nice illustration, AnMal. Never heard of the vinterhuldra or Skogsrå as Griatch referred to this mythical creature. Thanks for sharing. :)

Beautiful work as always AnMal. It's nice to learn more about scandinavian mythology as well. The composition and colouring are perfect.

Beautiful work AnMal. I wish I could draw, but I have no such talent. My favorite part is the eyes of course.

I Really like your work AnMal. I heard on the radio yesterday that in Sweden 'there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes'.
No wonder your vinterhuldra is well dressed :)

thanks everyone :)!

griatch: more scandinavian folklore for the people :)! yeah, she's busy with her own stuff at the moment, not trying to seduce innocent forestwalkers, so she's indulging in some pretty and practical knitwear. it's a hard life for a skogsrå - walking around naked with just a fox tail to warm you up in our scandinavian climate...

ella louise: i really tried to make it look cold in the picture, because i really love cold, snowy winters, but in reality we've had fairly mild winters here lately.

lylejk: "huldra" and "skogsrå" is pretty much the same thing and there used to be many more words for the same creatures. they're funny because they're supposed to have hollow backs and a fox tail :).

issabella: rich in detail is what i really aim for, so i'm glad you say that :)!

erisian: you're my knight in shining armour now. i was so proud of the colouring, and not perfectly happy with the composition, so i'm so glad you commented on those things.

nidhogg: and thanks for your comment, neighbour! i wasn't thinking of your flag when i made it, but i suppose it really is a very finnish picture :hehe . and since model pic is from norway, the background is partly from a swedish painting and there's even a danish bird in there, i guess it's sort of pan-scandinavian.

pat625: thank you! i'm glad you like the mythology, because i never know if i bore people when i write about my pictures.

racer-x: oh dear. this is very embarrassing for me! i can draw, but certainly not like this! it's just a fake painting, made by mixing photos and other paintings and running filters on them :). i should perhaps be more clear about that when i post my pictures.

tas_mania: hehe, oh that quote! when i was at school, we were forced outdoors during recess in thirty below zero with those words. and we would go skiing for PE lessons in the same temperatures and our teacher would throw that line at anyone who dared to whine about the cold. and i lived in dalarna, which is not even in the north. up north, i believe children were out playing when they had minus forty.
