Thanks for the comments all. To iarga, I blended the clipart with a seamless background, ran lylejk stencil followed by anisotrophic smoothing to blend things, then, in this case followed by rodilius, and then anisotrophic smoothing again, ran gradient norm a few times to get the ribbon lines, resized (double) and ran gradient norm again, then colorized for the wicker color. :)

OK, Iarga; you broke my arm. lol

below's the extreme simplified tutorial of the flow; didn't even use lylejk stencil followed by aniso which I often do. Still, I hope it gives you an idea. :)
