First off all: If you had recorded the video landscape, we could have seen, which version of gimp you have...

Turnig a layer is that symbol:

On the layer with the heart: Right mouse click, choose "add Alpha channel". By default, the layer don't hav an alpha channel. The alpha value describes the value of transparency. Now you have to get rid of the white color in your heart layer.
Use that symbol:

and select the white color in your heart layer. A line with "walking ants" appears around that layer. Press the "Delete" Button on your keyboard. The white Color disappears. You will not see it, because the background layer is white, too. But if you move your layer with the heart over the layer with the flower, you will see the success.

It addition to what Onkel Hatti has suggested.
You could also try this method.
This is called,
Color To Alpha.
This will remove the selected color,
which is white.
From the heart layer.
Leaving this layer with an Alpha Channel,
or what can be called Transparency.

I wrote a quicky script for this a while back also. You run the script on the chosen layer and just select the color you want transparent. It auto feathers and does a pretty decent job on solid colors.

Just throw it in your scripts folder. It will be under the menu Rod>Remove photo object BG color.

After running the filter. This is a 800% magnification on the triangle.

The problem with the internal Color to alpha filter is that if you go above 8.00 with opacity threshold,
the color you want to save won't be 100% opaque.

Thanks for the script Rod. Using 2 in both fields seems to give a nice result.
I've been using the python plug-in by Ofnuts (ofn-erase-background.py) to remove 1-colored backgrounds.

Thank you all, it worked and I am now playing with it, FINALLY. It printed out very small and I tried to scale it up. I received a warning window stating I may have scaled it up too much but it still prints out too small. One other issue, is there a way to get these different simple projects on one sheet of paper? Copy and paste doesn't seem to work in GIMP.
Thanks again!!!

Certainly works. Normal copy/paste will give you a floating selection however. I suggest creating a custom key combo for "paste as new layer".
Creating contact sheet that way would be extremely awkward.
I just tested Contact Sheet 2.16, it's python plug-in and works perfectly on Xubuntu, can't test on Windows.

GUI preview and sheet I tested of Pittsburgh Penguins Forwards.
