Cross was painted in black using symmetry painting then...
G'MIC difference of gaussians
G'MIC relief light
G'MIC stained glass
Two more painted layers with reduced opacity.

Glad you like it. For the 4 circles I created a circle selection, converted it to a path and stroked using a paintbrush. (You have to use a paintbrush for the symmetry painting to work) Apart from that, I used shift-click to get straight lines.

I have already had fun several times with symmetry painting but never found what I could do..Not found ideas!
