Thanks Mahvin, but no where near the simplication skills of a real artist. Still, believe it or not, it doesn't take that long to get this result (around 7 to 10 minutes and I bet I can now do it in 3). G'MIC and some layer mode blends along with some cleanup cloning. :)

Have you tried rendering a pencil sketch of the image first to see if it simplifies the process?

OK, Tas; some details lost due to the low rez to begin with (believe I could have done a better rendering if I had a higher rez image to begin with, but here's a result. I did add some engrave to this blend to address some things that have to do with artifacts created during the additional convolution step added to get me some details back. :)
