I'm pretty sure there were some postings on this way back when I first joined GC, but I've been playing with the filter a bit lately and it can provide some very interesting results.

Normally the filter turns a full rectangular layer into a sphere and can be used to create e-maps. However, by judicious placement of patterned content on a transparent layer and leaving areas of transparency above and below it, the parameters can be manipulated live to deliver pots and bowls with perspective. Rims of various sorts can be added thereafter using the ellipse select tool and stroked paths.

Anyway, i will post some examples over the next few days.

PS: maybe, OMG, you may create/post a tutorial on how to use MapObject>Sphere to give perspective to a drawing. It could be interesting for other people.

Sallyanne, Lyle and Diego - thanks for the comments. As per Diego's suggestion I will put something together about producing these pots and bowls with the filter and method outlined in first post.

Meanwhile two more example patterned pots.

Pocholo, Wallace, mackenzieh and Issa - thanks for your comments.

I've started work on the 'tut' referenced above, but here are a couple more examples of different pattern types that can be easily achieved.

One last examples post just to show that different shaped pots and bowls are possible too; they can be squat, stubby things or taller, elegant 'objet d'art'. All these shape styles will be addressed in the tutorial specs.

Hi Jappaloe63 - this thread, the images above and my upcoming tutorial are based on the use of GIMP>Filters>Map>Map Object>Sphere; your error is occurring in GMIC>3D Image Object, which I think is based on Mackenzieh's referral in post #7 above to Sallyanne's old 2016 bowls thread.

Working on a tut for beginners, but with you guys playing here, my wayward troll wanted to join you in the pot business.

I have now completed and attach below a tutorial covering the subject of creating pots, bowls and dishes using the Map Object>Sphere filter. The document also addresses adding a simple rim to such pots.

Some experienced members have successfully posted here using the frugal information that I gave out in the first post of the thread. However, as always with my tutorials, this one is geared towards inexperienced or even new GIMP users. It is detailed and step based with ample included images against which to check progress.

Again as usual, whilst I have attempted to proof read it, my success in that area is limited. So if there are any errors, omissions or comments people wish to make, then please use this thread to do so.
