The process was a bit too big and repetitive to make a tutorial on it so i just decided to post it and get some feedback.

The JFT stands for JFishTuts, my new Youtube channel where i post my tutorials. I only have 3 up right now but i just made it today so im working on new tutorials.

Really like the result's and the grungy paper really works well too. If you do make a tut, that would be cool. Maybe one day, someone will make a folded paper Script-fu for text anyway (how cool that would be). Thanks for sharing your result JFish. :)

I love it! Looks good. I am currently, but unsuccessfully, trying to convert a Photoshop tutorial on pancakes with melted butter, and text written with maple syrup, but GIMP lacks a key feature that permits fills to be completely transparent and leave the styles intact.

Would this water text tutorial work for maple syrup if you colored it?

O: That water effect works good up to a point, but I am tinkering with it some to see how to caramelize the look a little better.

JFish, I prefer text/screenshots over videos (just so you know, hehehe)

That's a pretty neat effect. The details (shadows, paper thickness) came out well.

A script would be a challenge - just thinking of how many directions and ways there are to fold paper. You would have to somehow identify where the appropriate places to fold are. In the case of fixed-font letters this would be easier. You could define it per letter... but it you want the user to choose a font, the script would have to understand the geometry of each letter.

And mahvin i saw that tutorial and i agree, gimp lacks a few plugins or scripts that photoshop has for that text effect

It would be really cool to make every letter and make a whole font!

That would be pretty cool but i like to customize each letter because some letters will look better with different folds based on what the whole word is.
