I was trying to find a way to make planetary rings like Saturn and I may have found it but I need some really good critique on the rings in the image below so don't be shy, this is still a work in progress.

Big fan of space art Drac. Like the dithered ring effect. :)

Those look pretty good.
Michael posted this link a while back.

And this script works nice also.

If you want realistic rings, then you have to remember that the ring colors are concentric circles, not slow spirals to/from the planet. Most planetary ring tutorials produce spiraling rings.

If you want realistic rings, check this tutorial http://istarlome.deviantart.com/art/pla ... -130017552

Addendum: Another good tutorial: http://bloknayrb.deviantart.com/art/Pla ... -163927000

Perfect! Exactly what I was looking for. I agree with the concentric circles comment you made.
Leave it to me to try and reinvent the wheel. Thanks for the links bkh1914.

Rod - that link to the tut was the one I originally used but I didn't like the way it looked so I duped the layer 3 times and applied different amounts of Spread noice and different colors to each. Like bkh1914 said though, they are still spirals and not concentric circles. Looks like the script is doing something similar. I'll have to try it out just to see. Thanks.

Can't wait to try these two new methods out.
