Old happy hippies may found difficult mantain the concentration for more then few minuts but they may develop skills to quickly focus and grab the very essential ...

Result may be something as

G'MIC has so many choices that it's hard to choose one. PhotoComix, your images are such fun.

I tried two and will go back and try more. I love the way the images look like paintings.

Got the original image here: http://www.craftmontana.com/coddington/tt/france/ParisStreetScene.jpg

@Alek

that cool there are many script with good painting drawing and cartoon effect

:clap I like the last Cartagena

Tom Keil wrote a tut on make realistic sketch with gimp/gmic
http://www.mediafire.com/file/7zcil4tndkhr17k/How

he used masks and a PS plugin for speed up the creation of mask (luminosity mask to use as layermasks )
I never used masks till now ....(as you i use often instead a ovelayered BW-pencil )but i think is a very good idea.

PS no plugin is strictly needed to create luminosity mask,...quoting Tom

"It is not really difficult to create the luminosity masks without Simpelfilter. Quick and dirty: Use threshold to define your shadows and your highlights, blur the mask images, for shadow mask invert, and paste them in as layer masks. Disadvantage: no transitional tonal range, but in many cases this will be good enough.

More accurate way: Desature the image copies which will give your masks. Apply levels on both, move the blacks up to define your shadows and the whites down to define where the transitional range ends. Adjust Gamma and afterwards adjust contrast to define smoothness of the transitional range. For the shadow image invert and paste them both in as layer masks.

I just recommended Simpelfilter because it is quicker and more intuitive to use. "

I use italic for what is for me the best solution ..treeshold is too simplicistic and dirty

Unfortunately those plugins won't work in Linux: PSPI & Simple filter. :( I'll have to give your method a try instead of simple filter.

I agree with you about threshold. It's baaaaaaaad. :hehe

I believe i have that SimpleFilter around here somewhere, ill have to look. =)
Every time i dl a new FREE filter i upload the original ZIP or RAR to my Media-Fire account so i have quite a collection there. =P (about 2700 plugins last i looked!). This would include 8bf's also.

One of these days i will have to ask for permission to write out the link to the folder to make just about every plugin available for GIMP accessible. heheh ... Then anyone could just browse through the folder and dl whatever one they want.Sort of like a PS and GIMP plugin repository. =P

PSPI more or less work also in Linux...there is a version for linux too (just the same exe + another file ) just require WINE installed.
but in linux works ...so and so, filters are exectuted correctly but the preview and even the interface of the plugin may be messed up.

the level method should work well
